Job Duties

This position will plan research and create social media content to support DCRs programs and services; ensure that written materials contain accurate and easytoread content that aligns with the goals of DCR; assist with managing the creation of new blog articles and updating existing content; assist in developing marketing strategies and tactics to promote DCRs programs and services; utilize editorial calendars and social media marketing plans; collaborate with the PCMO team State Parks personnel and other divisions to develop content for social media; manage assigned social media channels for state parks and DCR; monitor and report customer engagement related to DCRs social media platforms; assist with customer relations and reputation management; work collaboratively and constructively with supervisor coworkers and external stakeholders; and utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills.

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is the states lead conservation agency and it takes a diverse agency to conserve resources for a diverse commonwealth.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Considerable experience working in an interactive communications environment.
  • Considerable experience managing social media programs including developing content and graphics for organic communications and paid advertising.
  • Experience scheduling and posting content on major social media platforms.
  • Experience managing editorial calendars website content management systems and customer relations management tools.
  • Experience creating social media content for target audiences that vary based on subject matter.
  • Considerable knowledge of social media platform business applications.
  • Experience developing goals objectives and tactics for successful social media campaigns.
  • Experience utilizing research metrics to interpret campaign effectiveness and adjusting social media strategies as needed.
  • Experience managing multiple projects with complex tasks organizing work and performing at a high level under tight deadlines.

Additional Considerations

  • Experience with developing content related to outdoor recreation land conservation or natural resources.
  • Experience with producing multimedia content for use on social media and websites.
  • Basic photo and video editing skills with experience using Adobe Photoshop Premiere Pro After Effects and Illustrator.

  • DCR classified retired and wage staff (after six months of service) are entitled to overnight facility discounts such as:
    • Free camping outside of the Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day period in sites designed for up to six people.
    • Free camping Sunday night through Thursday night (excluding the night prior to a holiday) from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
    • Fifty percent discount on cabins (up to 3 bedrooms) outside of Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day for a maximum of 14 nights. All reservations require a twonight minimum. Bunkhouses camping cabins and yurts are included; one night yurt stays only receive a 25% discount.
