The Regional FP&A Controller Central West Canada will work out of the Winnipeg Office and will report to the Area Controller Solid Waste Western Canada. This person will work closely with the Regional VP of Central West Canada along with the Regional Senior Leadership Team to help create guide and analyze the Regional Financials. This is a key leadership role requiring strong business acumen communication skills and the ability to understand performance through financial metrics. From creating and building Budgets building capital and business case requests monthly and quarterly operating reviews to helping optimize and grow the Regional business this position is multifaceted and fastpaced.
Other responsibilities include monthly presentations budgets and forecasts capital expenditure requests and participation in tenders/bids for new contracts. Principal accountabilities include but are not limited to:
Management
- Lead train and supervise direct reports.
Planning
- Drive operational improvements in the various business lines working closely with the District Managers.
- Guide financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to current economic landscape.
- Assist the Regional VP and General Managers with the implementation of strategic business plans for the Region and report thereon.
- Work with the General Managers to complete capital requests and financial budgets for their divisions.
- Work with the Regional VP and General Managers to complete monthly forecasts.
- Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets policies procedures.
Operations
- Report on KPIs in accordance with preset timelines.
- Interpret and utilize KPIs to drive business improvement.
- Provide monthly variance analysis of results in accordance with corporate deadlines.
- Lead discussion and analysis in monthly operating reviews.
- Oversee the companys transaction processing systems for assigned districts.
- Implement operational best practices in line with corporate direction.
- Participate in populating models for tender/bidding process.
Financial Information
- Ensure reporting timelines are adhered to and improved wherever possible
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Guides financial decisions by establishing monitoring and enforcing policies and procedures
- Support for acquisition and system integration as necessary
Desired Qualifications
The successful candidate will be able to analyze financial statements interpret KPIs generate semimonthly forecasts and annual budgets. They will be a hands on finance professional with an operational background. He/she will have demonstrated the ability to analyze results and work with operations managers to identify and implement improvements. He/she must possess a desire to effect change and make a difference in the organization with passion.
The FP&A Controller should have a recognized accounting designation and/or 5 years of related experience. A background in solid waste or transportation industry would be an asset as would experience with Power Apps WorkDay and Trux software.
Working Conditions
Primarily in an office environment in the regional head office. Periodic weekend or evening work is expected. Occasional travel may be required.
