The Special Education Counselor provides dedicated support and guidance to students with special needs helping them achieve academic social and emotional success. This role involves collaborating with educators families and specialists to develop individualized plans that meet each students unique learning requirements. Additionally this position will provide dedicated support for students aged 14 and older to help students through the Special Education process and prepare them for life after high school graduation. Key Responsibilities: Assess and evaluate students academic social and emotional needs through observation testing and collaboration with teachers and implement and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each students strengths and with the student and family to facilitate success after high counseling services to students to support selfesteem social skills and coping for students needs within the school setting after high school graduation and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including therapists educators and external agencies to ensure success. Facilitate communication between students parents teachers and administrators to ensure understanding and support of special education workshops and provide training for staff on best practices in special education and inclusive teaching accurate records and documentation in compliance with legal and educational current with special education laws policies and research to advocate effectively and implement evidencebased :Masters degree in Special Education School Counseling Psychology or a related state certification/licensure for school counseling or special education working with students with disabilities in educational knowledge of special education laws IEP processes and counseling communication collaboration and problemsolving to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
