As a Labourer II youll be a vital part of our citywide maintenance team performing a variety of tasks like minor construction repairs and general upkeep. This role requires a basic understanding of trade practices and involves interacting with customers and vendors. You may also have the opportunity to lead casual labourers during busy periods.
What will you do
- Clean and maintain roofs (including repairs shingle installation snow removal and eavestrough cleaning) move and install furniture/equipment and perform site maintenance (garbage/debris removal)
- Inspect adjust clean and replace air filters and panels lubricate HVAC components wash reusable filter media and clean heating/cooling coils
- Assist plumbing and heating teams with their tasks
- Operate hand and power tools service vehicles and maintain a truck stock of tools and materials
- Assist various trades staff with their duties and Journeyperson trades staff with inspections
- Perform safety checks on equipment like safety stands lifting slings and hoists
- Ensure a safe and accessible worksite including proper setup of scaffolding ladders and barriers
- Provide daily reports on work progress and equipment/system conditions
- Contribute to a safe workplace by actively participating in health and safety meetings and programs
- Maintain an inventory of tools and materials

- Completion of Grade 10 (or higher or equivalent)
- One year of experience in the applicable work area (examples may include building maintenance and repair maintenance of mechanical systems in commercial buildings roofing and/or others depending on the applicable work area)
Assets:
- Valid First Aid Certification
Skills required for success:
- Some knowledge of standard methods materials tools and equipment used in the construction andmaintenance of specific work assignments
- Some knowledge of safety precautions and hazards involved with the assigned work
- Ability to use the hand and power tools equipment and materials used to complete workassignments
- Ability to understand and execute verbal and written instructions including the ability to maintain
- basic records and interpret plans/sketches
- Good interpersonal skills including the ability to collaborate well with others and foster strongworking relationships
- Ability to work independently including multitasking and organizing work tasks
- Ability to perform basic computer tasks such as entering time using email for communication andcalendar for time management as receiving/managing work orders

Conditions of Employment:
- Ability to pass and maintain taskspecific safety and equipment training such as fall arrest confined spaces aerial work platform
- Capable of passing a jobrelated physical abilities evaluation (F.A.R.E. test) and preemployment City medical examination
- Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator and compliance with the City of Edmontons Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment including medical monitoring is a requirement of this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmontons safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as wearing steel toed boots is a requirement for this position
- Hire is dependent on Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and there may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Valid Alberta Class 5 drivers licence (or provincial equivalent).
- Obtaining and maintaining a City Drivers permit is a requirement of this position
Work Environment:
- Physical ability to perform medium to heavy manual labour for extended periods of time in various weather and environmental conditions including bending lifting climbing ladders and working at heights
