Job Description

Join our team as an Assistant Principal at PelhamHigh School!

Home to more than 1600 students the Pelham School District is comprised of three schools serving PreK through 12thgrade students. About the Position:

This position is responsible for assisting the Principal in the planning organization administration and management of the school. The position assists with providing schoolwide leadership to promote student achievement and safety of each student and staff member. The assistant ensures a safe and effective educational atmosphere provides discipline as necessary and enforces school rules and policy. This position performs duties as assigned by the principal involving major portions of school operations and assumes administration responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal. Special emphasis is placed on student discipline transportation special education student and staff attendance and extracurricular activities.

In accordance with Ed. 304.01 the assistant principal supports the work of the principal and acts as the principal in his/her absence. Duties include but are not limited to:

  1. Promote the success of all students consistent with a vision for learning that is shared and supported by the community school board and superintendent of schools by:
  2. Facilitating the development articulation implementation and stewardship of best practices for pupils;
  3. Advocating nurturing and sustaining a school culture and instructional program conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
  4. Ensuring management of the organization operations and resources for a safe efficient and effective learning environment;
  5. Collaborating with families and community members responding to diverse community interests and needs and mobilizing community resources; and
  6. Having the knowledge and skills to promote the success of all students by understanding the larger political social economic legal and cultural contexts.
  7. Evaluate and make recommendations to the building principal and superintendent concerning candidates for professional and nonprofessional positions in accordance with school board policy or as directed by the superintendent;
  8. Assign direct and be responsible for the evaluation of all personnel employed in the school in accordance with local school board policy administrative rules and as directed by the superintendent;
  9. Create and maintain a healthy culture in conjunction with the principal;
  10. Administer student discipline and will address students referred for violations of the handbook administer disciplinary action as necessary and notify parents/guardians teachers and the principal of actions taken;
  11. Serve on school and district level committees as needed;
  12. Coordinate and supervise the daily operation of the schools attendance program transportation and parking inschool suspension detention operations and teacher substitutes;
  13. Confer with teachers and parents/guardians concerning student discipline attendance and student behavior;
  14. Confer with students referred for violations of the handbook administer disciplinary action as necessary and notify parents/guardians teachers and the principal of actions taken;
  15. Monitor halls caf bus and car areas school grounds and pupil movement to ensure a safe and orderly environment;
  16. Coordinate fire and bus drills and other emergency response activities;
  17. Assist in creating duty schedules for staff based on student assignments and the needs of the building;
  18. Attend and supervise afterschool evening and weekend schoolsponsored events and activities as assigned;
  19. Seek ways to develop and sustain a climate of mutual respect between and among the students and adults who participate in the school;
  20. Prepare related reports and records are required by the school district state and/or federal government; and
  21. Perform any duty assigned by the principal and superintendent in accordance with school board policy state statutes and the state board of education.

Qualifications:

Amasters degree from an accredited educational institution; at least five (5) years of teaching and/or administration experience; demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development technology integration special education and school operations/programs;

current New Hampshire certification or the eligibility to obtain a Principal endorsement.
