DUTY STATION (City Country): Rome (HQ) Italy
DURATION: 1 August 2025 for 11 months


BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The Secretariat of the United Nations Medical Directors (UNMD) is responsible for coordinating the interagency activities and programs of the UNMD network the leading entity(1) for Occupational Health in the UN system.
The UNMD is cochaired by the Director WFP Staff Wellness Service and is composed of the Medical Directors and Chiefs of Medical and Health and Wellbeing Services of the United Nations System Organizations and affiliates. (2)
The Secretariat coordinates and supports the work of UNMDs interagency and interdisciplinary working groups.
The Secretariat position is titled InterAgency Coordinator and is resourced via an International Consultant funded under an interagency costshare agreement (Third party Agreement TPA) administered by the World Food Programme (WFP) regulated by an MoU with the participating organizations of the UNMD. The PAHO Medical Director is the cochair of the UNMD network.
Work location: Rome and telecommuting
In addition of providing workspace at WFP HQ Rome the UNMD Secretary is subject to telework arrangements.
Working implies frequent interaction with the members of the UNMD network HR Network Security Network UN Staff and Stress Counsellors Group Finance and Budget Network the CEB Secretariat and the Secretariat of the HighLevel Committee on Management (HLCM).


(1) The UNMD promotes and shares medical technical and professional knowledge and resources in the area of occupational health. It promotes best practises and procedures of themedical services initiates and harmonizes occupational health policies throughout the UN common system and presents recommendations and expert advice to the administrations of the member organizations and to appropriate bodies of the common system (CEB/2005/HLCM/R.12).
(2) The UNMD represents and/or consists of the following entities: United Nations Secretariat UNICEF UNDP UNFPA UNESCAP UNESCWA UNECCA UNIDO IAEA ITU WMO WIPO UNWTO UNEP UNHabitat UNICTY UNESCO ICC ICJ ILO FAO IFAD WHO World Bank Group IMF IOM UNHCR WFP OPCW ADB AFDB EEAS UNWRA


DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
as per agreed work plan with chairs and as specified in PACE.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:

Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent degree) in business administration project management communication or related f ield is desired. A f irst level university degree with qualifying work experience is accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Formal qualifications in occupational health is an advantage (e.g. NEBOSH).
Experience:

A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in business or project management communications meeting and conference planning of which at least four years in the UN system.
Experience in working in an occupational health context would be an advantage.
Knowledge & Skills:
Expert knowledge and understanding of the functioning of organizations of the UN system with a particular emphasis on interagency co ordination and of the UNMD Network and its stakeholders.
Good knowledge of the UN System internal policies practices and procedures.
Indepth knowledge of occupational health operations in at least one organization of the UN system.
Understanding of the broader political economic and social climate
within which the organizations of the UN system operate.
Experience in managing coordinating and communicating to a large and diverse group of stakeholders in the safety health and wellness landscape of the UN.
Good research reportwriting analytical and problemsolving skills; ability to apply good judgment in the context of assignments given contribution to development and communication of occupational health policies and procedures and new programs.
Proven ability to work independently proactively and in a team.
Languages:

Fluency in English (both oral and written)
