Job Description:

The Foundation Accountant/Director of Business Services will be responsible for the daytoday financial operation of the Foundation ensuring our organizations financial health growth and sustainability. The FA/DBS will manage the Hinds Foundations financial reporting assist with annual budgeting financial analysis investment strategy and annual audit. The position will work closely with the Vice President/Executive Director Director of Development and Board of Directors to develop and implement financial strategies that support our organizations mission vision and goals.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF THE FUNCTION

All Hinds Community College employees must commit to the Caring Campus approach to student engagement and daily apply these general behavioral objectives: listen to student questions and concerns with a positive attitude and make meaningful connections with students.

Work within the Hinds Community College Foundation and Advancement Office to raise private funds; manage and record gifts in an ethical and efficient manner; and develop positive donor relations with current and prospective donors. The Foundation Accountant/Director of Business Services (FA/DBS) will be responsible for the daytoday financial operation of the Foundation ensuring our organizations financial health growth and sustainability. The FSA will manage the Hinds Foundations financial reporting assist with annual budgeting financial analysis investment strategy and annual audit. The FSA will work closely with the Vice President/Executive Director Director of Development and Board of Directors to develop and implement financial strategies that support our organizations mission vision and goals.

This position reports to the VP of Advancement/Executive Director of the Foundation.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Individual will need to have strong people skills and the ability to plan and organize projects. Individual should be well organized; detail oriented and have a willingness to learn new software programs. Familiarity with computer concepts and basic software required. Individual must be able to multitask and be flexible to assist in all Foundation/Advancement areas as needed. Individual must have an appreciation and understanding of nonprofit entities and of Hinds Community College. Employee must have a valid drivers license and be insurable.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of an Associate of Arts degree with a bachelors degree in accounting finance or a related field preferred; Special consideration for an MBA or CPA certification.
  • At least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in financial management with a working knowledge of the nonprofit sector. Educational attainment may substitute for years of experience.
  • Proven track record of successful financial management including experience developing and implementing financial strategies managing budgets/investments and overseeing financial reporting and compliance.
  • Strong leadership and management skills; interest in working as a member of a team.
  • Excellent analytical problemsolving and decisionmaking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate financial information to nonfinancial stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Hinds Community College; Alumnus preferred.
  • History of success in working with fundraising outreach and marketing efforts.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the Mississippi community college system
  • Ability to work with intricate computer systems including Blackbaud Raisers Edge Financial Edge Scholarship Universe and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to accomplish stated goals.
  • Experience in event planning and event financial management.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

  • Oversee daytoday financial operations including recording of gifts managing accounts and project funds budgeting forecasting and financial analysis.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of financial records and reports.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the Executive Director Finance Committee and the Board of Directors providing analysis and recommendations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all financial reporting and regulatory requirements including Federal/State tax filings audits and other reporting requirements.
  • In partnership with the Executive Director and the Director of Development manage the annual budgeting process working closely with senior staff to develop annual budget.
  • Monitor actual performance against budget and provide regular updates and analysis to the Executive Director.
  • Develop and maintain financial forecasting models that support planning and organization decisionmaking.
  • Assist with the management of the organizations investment portfolio at the direction of the Finance Committee and external advisors.
  • Oversee annual audit as well as tax filings and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain positive relations with alumni and friends of the college key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist with strategy for raising funds for the Foundation with special emphasis on unrestricted funds scholarships and capital projects.
  • Ensure the proper recording acknowledgement and managing of gifts by senior staff.
  • Utilize Foundation software programs including Scholarship Universe Financial Edge and Raisers Edge.
  • Assist with the administration of Foundation Scholarships. This includes working with scholarship donors to develop and maintain scholarship criteria the matching of student with scholarship determining amount to award and overall supervision of Foundation Scholarships.
  • Assist with other special events and projects such as donor appreciation employee appreciation building dedications homecoming Golf Fun Fest and other activities.
  • Represent the Foundation at community events/meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
