Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate inperson and district or virtual instruction in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. To assist in the coordination and facilitation of the secondary band program so that each student is provided the opportunity to participate in extracurricular band activities and ensure compliance with all state University Interscholastic League (UIL) and district requirements.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Bachelors degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Physical Education Teachers: Current automated external defibrillator (AED) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of all UIL TMEA and TEA rules pertaining to instrumental music / band
  • Skill in instruction public relations leadership and managing budget and personnel
  • Ability to communicate effectively; manage multiple priorities and projects; assess curriculum and instruction; interpret policy procedures and data; and willingness to advance knowledge by attending workshops conventions and staff development sessions

Experience

  • Student teaching approved internship or related work experience

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Strategies

  • Develop and implement lesson plans for inperson distance and virtual learning that fulfill the requirements of districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials equipment and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency board policies and administrative regulations
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP)
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals objectives and methods according to district requirements
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion
  • Assist in directing middle school instrumental performers including concert band soloists and ensembles
  • Assist with band participation at extracurricular events including concerts pep rallies and UIL activities
  • Obtain and use evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure that program renewal is continuous and responds to student needs
  • Oversee process of cleaning repairing and string all band equipment
  • Prepare subject matter according to guidelines established by TEA board policies and administrative regulations
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned
  • Comply with federal and state laws SBEC rule TEA and UIL rules and board policy pertaining to band
  • Accompany and supervise students on outoftown trips
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents students principals and teachers
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students
  • Apply and enforce students discipline in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities
  • Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance to ensure a consistent focus on student learning
  • Work collaboratively and attend events within the vertical feeder for instrumental music to support efforts therein
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Student Growth and Development

  • Conduct ongoing assessment and feedback related to student achievement through formal and informal methods
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the goals of the campus and school district

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create inperson and virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical social and emotional development of students
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities
  • Assist in selecting books equipment and other instructional materials
  • Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required

Communication

  • Be available by phone email or video conferencing to confer with district personnel students and/or parents
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents students colleagues and community members

Professional Growth/Development and Other

  • Participate in staff development activities to improve jobrelated skills
  • Comply with state district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrators that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position

  • Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; frequent kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting
  • Motion: Frequent walking; repetitive computer work with frequent use of hands and wrists
  • Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move textbooks and classroom equipment
  • Environment: Work inside from school home or location other than school building may work outside; regular exposure to noise and computer monitors
