Job Description
Performs specialized work associated with driving operating and maintaining fire department apparatus aerial ladders auxiliary vehicles and other equipment to extinguish fires. Performs rescues medical response and provides aid in emergency situations.
Responds to alarms and emergency calls as an integral member of the firefighting team.
Drives and operates heavy fire apparatus including engines aerial ladders and emergency vehicles during incident response. Positions apparatus safely and effectively onscene to support firefighting and rescue operations.
Assesses and treats patients at emergency scenes including accidents fires and medical incidents. Administers first aid and assists with patient handling including lifting and transferring to ambulances. Applies medical equipment such as splints backboards suction devices and CPR tools.
Provides basic life support and trauma care; monitors vital signs and maintains patient stability until transport.
Assists in fire prevention inspections of buildings and facilities; identifies safety hazards and advises on corrective actions. Educates the public on fire safety practices through tours presentations and community events.
Supports fire investigation efforts by helping determine fire origin and cause.
