As a Speech-Language Pathologist heres a big-picture view of what youll do:
- Provide speech therapy to patients having communication swallowing and cognitive difficulties in facilities such as nursing homes rehab centers assisted living facilities and hospitals
- Work with a team of physicians nurses CNAs PTs and OTs to provide excellent patient care
- Assist physician in evaluation of patients ability to speak swallow and process information
- Conduct patient assessments document progress and ensure patient goals are met
- Assist with mouth breathing and swallowing exercises fluency articulation and reading
- Educate patient and family on therapy goals safety practices and self-care
A few must-haves for Speech-Language Pathologists:
- Masters or Doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology and active SLP license in Florida.
- Minimum of 2years of speech therapy experience in a medical facility
- CPR certification and AHCA level 2 experience
- Knowledge of state and federal healthcare laws and regulations
- Good clinical judgement critical thinking skills strong communicator empathy and compassion
