We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the Hidden Valley Elementary School team as a grade one teacher. HVES is a welcoming connected school community where engaged students develop their sense of identity and belonging. Every student develops the skills to be successful in literacy and numeracy because of our commitment to nurturing the whole child in an inclusive and culturally rich environment that values and respects Yukon First Nations ways of knowing doing and being.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:
• Bachelor of Education
• Experience teaching at the primary grade levels in a classroom including literacy and numeracy.
• Experience teaching structured literacy.
• Experience infusing First Peoples ways of Knowing Doing and Being into the curriculum to support and instruct students.
• Experience in the design and implementation of differentiated programming for diverse needs in the classroom.
• Experience utilizing universal design for learning in the classroom.
• Experience and/or willingness to incorporate the outdoors into the curriculum is an asset.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

• Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
• Willingness and ability to work as a member of a team and to participate in the total school programs and initiatives.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trusting relationships and work with students parents staff members consultants and administrators.
• Ability to adapt curriculum to meet the needs of students with a range of learning styles and abilities and to meet the needs of students with Individual Educational Plans.
• Effective and respectful classroom management based on a developmental understanding of childrens strengths and needs.
• A strong commitment to the practice of differentiated instruction and assessment within the classroom to meet student needs.
• Strong commitment to and proven dedication to support the philosophy values and beliefs of the school.
• Knowledge and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
• Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process here
