JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for receiving processing and managing timelife critical emergency nonemergency and administrative calls for service; operating the 911 console; receiving routing and dispersing telephone calls/messages; and providing assistance to the public/agency employees/other county personnel. Incumbent must dispatch calls for service; and notify agencies of robberies and priority events. Duties also include completing assignments/special projects as directed; completing updating submitting required reports/documents/forms; and maintaining control of and follow up on incoming correspondence/action documents.

Duties

  • ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Receiving analyzing & prioritizing 911 calls as well as nonemergent phone calls for Police Fire and EMS service and transferring them to the appropriate agency.
    • Effectively utilizing a computeraided dispatch (CAD) system to prioritize calls record incident details and identify the status and location of responders in the field.
    • Distributing calls for service for the Deputy Sheriff units according to guidelines.
    • Always monitor radio traffic for the Sheriffs Office and know when additional steps are needed for officer safety/public safety.
    • Access a secure nationwide database to look up confidential records for responders including driver and vehicle registration statuses and warrants.
    • Monitor multiple camera systems.
    • Knowledge of TDD TTY and multiphone line systems.
    • Deliver clear and direct lifesaving instructions to citizens on 911 emergency lines and administrative lines.
    • If a caller is unable to state their location PST must have the knowledge to access multiple systems including RapidSOS RMS CAD history LINX 911 screen coordinates and Google maps.
    • Connect conference calls involving two or more parties to render timely emergency assistance and initiate emergency callbacks to obtain additional information or to follow up on disconnected calls.
    • Maintain records and reports including shift reports and operational logs for FIN Visitor Log and Alert Clay County.
    • Knowledge of the paging system and how to utilize it with governing policy and procedures.
    • Knowledge of policy and procedures regarding NCIC (National Crime Information System)/FCIC (Florida Crime Information System) and usage of programs to run wanted checks criminal histories tags vehicles guns and missing persons.
    • Knowledge of FAA (Federal Air Authority) and when/how to contact them for light outages.
    • CSX notifications of railroad accidents and problems with equipment.
    • PSTs must have knowledge of the geographical area of Clay County and surrounding counties.
    • Maintains a proper working knowledge of all emergency procedures related to their post including the physical location and proper use of all emergency equipment if applicable and will act immediately and in accordance with agency policies/procedures in the event of an emergency.
    • Attends shift briefings or staff meetings as required/directed recording all pertinent information and directives and providing superiors and colleagues with job/shift related information.
    • Identifies situations which present special or unusual problems and promptly contacts the designated supervisor for assistance as necessary and in accordance with agency policies/procedures.
    • Receives and correctly processes or forwards all wrecker requests and the appropriate corresponding information and maintains the wrecker files in accordance with agency policies.
    • Communicates with other law enforcement agencies and in house personnel to ensure proper coordination of multiagency efforts relaying and securing information as requested maintaining constant contact with established point to point frequencies and performing any other services as required.
    • Tracks monitors and documents all deputies and other designated personnels activities as required during their tour of duty in accordance with agency policies.
    • Operates twoway radios according to agency policy and applicable standards to provide and maintain effective communications with agency personnel.
    • Notifies surrounding agencies of robberies and priority events in a timely manner consistent with agency policies with the goal of promoting officer safety and enhancing apprehension potential.
    • Responds with appropriate assistance when a deputy/LEO is in a trouble situation which includes ensuring the immediate quickest and safest response to a deputy/LEO in trouble by broadcasting the units location onviewing the unit responding the closest units and emergency personnel responding K9s as appropriate and maintaining a count of all units on the scene.
    • Provides support functions for deputies which includes pinging cell phones locating information dialing complainants contacting/notifying other agencies for assistance phone messages paging agency members assisting deputies with basic CAD commands when their MCTs are not working properly confirming wanted people/vehicles/items entering stolen vehicles/items into state and national databases entering missing people into state and national databases and building BOLOs.
    • Possesses sufficient knowledge and correctly performs all the designated duties and assumes all responsibilities as required in the absence of the assigned supervisor/superior/coworker or during periods of work overload in accordance with agency policy procedures and supervisory direction.
    • Be able to use sound judgment with limited knowledge.
    • Provides accurate information/directions/assistance to the public agency members and/or other department personnel in a professional and courteous manner consistent with agency policies; and will not disseminate or discuss information of a confidential nature.
    • Processes applicable incoming and outgoing documents and/or files in a timely manner consistent with supervisory direction and/or agency policies/procedures.
    • Participates in crosstraining with other coworkers; assists those coworkers when the need arises and learns new tasks by working together as a team.
    • Reports identified or potential maintenance safety and/or noncompliance findings hazards and incidents to the appropriate personnel and/or department.
    • Timely completes all assignments special projects and budgetary requirements (if applicable) as directed adhering to applicable agency policies.
    • Adheres to leave and attendance policies including punctual arrival and completing full shifts. Informs the supervisor about illness or untimely incidents reports overtime hours worked and timely submits timesheet attendance and leave requests.
    • Regularly checks assigned mailbox phone calls PowerDMS and email messages responding promptly and professionally.
    • Makes assigned chain of command aware of anything noteworthy.
    • Responds to supervision guidance direction and feedback from executive staff and superiors in a receptive manner and in accordance with agency policies.
    • Conducts themselves in a polite helpful courteous ethical and professional manner abiding by the established code of ethics and demonstrates a courteous and professional image when engaged in any activity with the public.
    • Cultivates positive working relationships with colleagues and other agency units to enhance work area output and services in line with agency policies.
    • Demonstrates an understanding consideration and respect of cultural religious and gender differences when interacting with the public and coworkers.
    • Actively participate in jobspecific training.
    • Operates and performs minor repairs for office equipment to manufacturers specifications and/or within the specified parameters pursuant to agency policies.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education Experience and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient in Microsoft office products
  • Speak and understand the English language
  • Internal candidates must have successfully completed their probationary period
  • Internal candidates with punitive disciplinary action within 365 days are ineligible
  • The following items (or authorized equivalents) may be required at various steps in the application process:

    2. Birth Certificate
    3. Social Security Card
    4. Form DD214 for all periods served in the military
    5. GED or High School Diploma and Sealed Transcripts from the highest level of education
    6. FDLE Authority for Release (notarized)

Certification Licenses and Registrations Requirements:

  • Public Safety Telecommunication certification CPR/AED FEMA Emergency Preparedness/Management (Multiple courses) CJIS certification NCIC/FCIC certification IPTM certification (certified Communications training officers). Training provided during employment.
  • Department of Health for PST certification. Training provided during employment.

Supplemental Information

Salary is negotiable for fulltime positions prior to initial hire if requested based on verified experience up to step five (5) of the assigned pay grade. Current employee salary changes are determined based on internal methodology. Please contact Human Resources with any questions.
