POSITION TITLE: DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Arkansas Certification as a Supervisor for Special Education
- Previous administrative experience
REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent for Learning Services
JOB GOAL: Provide sound educational programs for children who require
at least a partially different program from a regular classroom.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Make recommendations for implementing special education services.
- Work cooperatively with teachers and other instructional personnel in planning and developing the curriculum for special education.
- Maintain information records on all special education students and assign students to special classes.
- Develop and recommend the districts special education plan and budget to the administration.
- Coordinate services for special education students in the district provided by other public and private agencies.
- Assist teachers in all phases of the teaching process.
- Maintain records and prepare reports for state and federal education agencies.
- Maintain records and prepare reports for the various departments.
- Assist in the writing and evaluation of special education projects.
- Supervise the personnel of the Special Education Department.
- Assume responsibility for the homebound teaching program.
- Assist the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources and principals in reviewing of applications and screening applicants for positions in special education.
- Develop and implement inservice for all aspects of special education.
- Monitor all aspects of the special education desegregation monitoring plan.
- Supervise and administer all district instructional and supplemental programs for children with disabilities under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Salary Range: Teachers Salary Schedule x Index Factor
Length of Contract: 244 contract days
