Job Description

Sunchild First Nation School is currently seeking a passionate and dynamic Jr. Sr. High Physical Education and Health Teacher to join our team for theschool year. This role includes a unique opportunity to lead the Sunchild School Volleyball Academy for students in Grades 9 to 12 who are seeking a balanced program of academic learning and highlevel volleyball training.

About Our School:

Sunchild First Nation School serves 396 students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 and is located on the beautiful Sunchild First Nation in central Alberta. Our school is deeply committed to supporting students through a culturally responsive and traumainformed approach to education. We are proud of our strong sense of community and our mission to inspire academic achievement physical wellness and cultural pride in all our students.

Position Overview:

We are looking for an enthusiastic highly organized and studentcentred educator who can create an engaging and inclusive learning environment in both Physical Education and Health classes. The successful applicant will also serve as the lead coach and coordinator of our Volleyball Academy fostering athletic development teamwork and a passion for the sport among high school students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver the Alberta curriculum in Jr. and Sr. High Physical Education and Health.
  • Plan and implement skillbased and culturally relevant lessons that promote physical literacy and wellness.
  • Lead and develop the Sunchild Volleyball Academy providing regular training sessions during school hours and coordinating team practices games and tournaments.
  • Identify and support studentathletes with potential for postsecondary athletic opportunities.
  • Foster a safe inclusive and encouraging environment where students can thrive both academically and athletically.
  • Collaborate with school staff community members and families to promote wellness leadership and school spirit.
  • Incorporate Indigenous knowledge values and perspectives into teaching practices and academy programming.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Education with a focus on Physical Education or equivalent.
  • Alberta teaching certification
  • Coaching certification in volleyball
  • Previous coaching or experience leading high school athletics preferred.
  • Strong classroom management organizational and communication skills.
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultures histories and ways of knowing is an asset.
  • A commitment to reconciliation and a passion for working with First Nation youth.
