Job Description

Treasury Taxation and Vehicles merges the functions of the County Clerk Register of Deeds and Treasurer into one department. The department is responsible for recording and maintaining land record documents motor vehicle titling and registrations property tax calculations billing and distributions.

Johnson County Governments Treasury Taxation and Vehicles Department is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Taxation Specialist.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Answers phones refers calls and customers; greets customers and gives standard information in response to phone email or inperson inquiries; serves as a subject matter expert; provides solutions and recommendations for complicated issues; tracks and monitors calls to provide quality control; provides training to other staff.
  • Creates and maintains files both public and confidential; inputs data into systems; creates and distributes reports and analyzes data to determine problems or trends; initiates written or oral correspondence; schedules appointments meetings and other functions.
  • Respond to customer inquiries through face to face interaction in a courteous and effective manner. Responsible for interpreting and ensuring compliance with county and state laws policies and procedures. Research make determinations and issue correspondence regarding invalid transactions to include incorrect payment amounts adjusted payment amounts refunds and other various issues. Direct customers to other departments for more detailed information when necessary. Find resolutions to simple and complex questions regarding property taxes collections accounts and other issues related to Treasury Taxation and Vehicles or Johnson County.
  • Assists customers with completing routine and nonroutine forms when appropriate; collects forms and any supporting documents; reviews for accuracy and completeness; obtains client information as well as signatures on required permission and consent forms; explains fees policies and payment options. Based on information received researches account information; makes determination on coordination of services/resources and organizes referrals to current staff or outside agencies; copies collates and routes forms to appropriate locations or staff.
  • Accurately maintain and balance daily collections following cashier procedures and recommended cash handling guidelines. Process all mail and walkin payments daily by cash check and credit card. Manage process and balance specialized payments such as online and bank imports accounts receivable bankruptcy etc. Research and write correspondence regarding incorrect tax payments within two business days. Collect receipt and prepare deposits for all cash and check deposits received from other county departments.
  • Calculates and collects fees for payment; resolves a variety of nonroutine customer complaints problems and billing disputes; may provide followup to ensure customer satisfaction. Completes daily audit and reconciliation of cash and checks collected and prepares deposit.

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and one year of customer service or related experience are required. May require KS/MO drivers license depending on department or agency.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Education/Experience Substitutions:

Experience may be substituted for degree. Education may be substituted for experience.

Physical Environmental and Special Working Conditions:

All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
