Job Summary
The Financial Counselor is responsible for reviewing the Financial Clearance Worklist daily and visiting inhouse patients; collecting estimated patient liability amounts; explaining all financial information responsibilities and working closely with outside agencies to ensure patients financial coverage.

Frye Regional Medical Center located in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina is a 355bed acute care hospital 81bed Behavioral Health facility and more than 70 primary and specialty care providers.
Essential Functions
Follow AIDET guidelines in all interactions with the patient.
Demonstrate excellent customer service.
In conjunction with the Medicaid Eligibility Advocates visit all uninsured patients inhouse.
Provide estimates to patients and/or physicians as requested.
Generate insurance verification and precertification reports daily and follow up with case management and insurance verification departments as appropriate.
Follow all guidelines set forth in the Cash Handling policy.
Utilize eligibility systems online websites or phone calls to determine insurance benefits and precertification requirements.
Assist patients with payment arrangements and in coordination with the Medicaid Eligibility Advocates assists patient with financial applications.
Contact patient employer if necessary for verification of employment premium status babies being added to policies.
Escalate any concerns as needed to Patient Access Manager and Director
Enter pertinent insurance information into the HIS system (Cerner)
Enter appropriate notes for all patient encounters.
Maintain professional image and implement excellent customer service to customers.
Complete financial analysis and collect estimated patient liabilities
Follow up with patients for necessary signatures if they were incomplete at time of hospitalization.
Attend inservice presentations and complete mandatory education including but not limited to infection control patient safety quality improvements MSDS and OSHA standards.
Demonstrate knowledge of occurrence reporting system and utilizes system to report potential patient safety issues.
Practice and adhere to the Code of Conduct philosophy and Mission and Value Statement
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
