The Opportunity
Monash University is seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Systems Engineer to lead the design deployment and administration of our enterprisegrade onpremises Kubernetes infrastructure. This role is pivotal in ensuring the scalability security and resilience of our core systems which support both advanced research computing and critical enterprise services.
You will be responsible for the full lifecycle management of vanilla Kubernetes clusters including:
- Deep understanding and implementation of Kubernetes networking utilising CNI plugins ingress controllers and service meshes to ensure efficient and secure communication within the cluster.
- Applying Kubernetes security best practices such as RBAC Pod Security Policies and network policies to safeguard cluster operations.
- Managing and optimising highperformance storage solutions and virtualisation platforms to meet the demands of both research and enterprise workloads.
- Employing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform and Ansible for consistent and repeatable deployments.
- Implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to streamline application deployment and updates.
- Collaborating with crossfunctional teams including developers security professionals and researchers to translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
- Ensuring compliance with Monash Universitys technical operational and security standards across all systems.
To excel in this role you should possess:
- A degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field.
- Extensive experience in administering onpremises vanilla Kubernetes clusters with a strong grasp of its architecture and components.
- Proficiency in Kubernetes networking and security including handson experience with CNI plugins ingress controllers RBAC and network policies.
- Experience with highperformance storage systems virtualisation technologies and data centre infrastructure.
- Strong skills in Git CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation tools like Terraform or Ansible.
- Excellent problemsolving abilities and effective communication skills with the capacity to work collaboratively across diverse teams.
