Job Description

Job Title: Assistant Wage/Hour Status: NonExempt

SUMMARY:

Responsible for daytoday onsite operation of campus library. The Library/Technology Assistant will work under minimal supervision or/and oversight by a District Librarian.

  • Model KISD core organizational beliefs and values; perform duties effectively and efficiently for the purpose of supporting and contributing to high student achievement.
  • Provide program support and service delivery; communicate effectively within and across teams and participate in crossfunctional work groups.
  • Maintain a commitment to the District mission; model District expectations through personal leadership and actively support the efforts of others to achieve District goals.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Library Program Support

  • Support the implementation of a school library program including technology services and create a library/media center environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of student.
  • Help library patrons use library/media center resources including computers and other equipment.
  • Make recommendations for acquisitions of materials and equipment as needed.

Instructional Support

  • Provide individual and group instruction for students and other library users and help them locate resources and use research techniques.
  • Reinforce reading instruction as directed by teachers. May read to small groups of students and listen to individual students read aloud.
  • Schedule and prepare materials and reserve collection for classroom instructional use.

Accounting and Inventory

  • Maintain library catalog. Process organize distribute and maintain inventory of library/media center resources. Request and schedule use of materials from outside sources.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair books magazines materials and equipment. Arrange for repair at outside facilities (e.g. bindery) as directed.

Clerical Support

  • Prepare forms and routine correspondence according to standard procedures.
  • Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents as required.

Student Management

  • Monitor students and maintain appropriate student behavior and an orderly atmosphere.

Other

  • Assign work to parent volunteers and student aides and oversee completion.
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Policy Reports and Law

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile maintain file and secure all physical and computerized reports records and other required documents.
  • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Comply with all policies operating procedures legal requirements and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
  • Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate

Experience:

  • Experience working with children
  • Library experience (preferred)

SPECIAL KNOWLEGDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Ability to work with children with disabilities
  • Ability to work well with children
  • Skill in working with a variety of students in varied situations
  • Ability to be selfmotivated and selfdirected
  • Ability to read; understand and follow detailed written and verbal instructions
  • Ability to effectively present information in oneonone situations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Monitor the work and issue work assignments to parent volunteers and student aides.

MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

Tools/Equipment Used:

  • Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
  • Standard library equipment including imaging equipment
  • Standard instructional equipment

Posture:

  • Regular sitting standing kneeling squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Motion:

  • Repetitive hand motions
  • Frequent keyboarding and use of mouse
  • Regular overhead reaching; climbing ladders

Lifting:

  • Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
  • Occasional moderate lifting and carrying (1544 pounds or over)

Environment:

  • Work to be completed onsite from assigned school or building
  • Work inside
  • Work alone
  • Exposure to biological and chemical hazards (mold and dust)
  • No remote work

Mental Demands:

  • Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress work
