**This is an anticipated vacancy. This position is expected to be available on May 30 2025.**


This position reports directly to the Associate Warden of Operations and is located in the Food Service department of a minimum custody male correctional facility. Responsibilitiesof this position include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Directing the preparation and serving of food to offenders in a minimum custody male correctional facility.
  2. Supervising staff offenders and the performance of responsibilities in all phases of food service management.
  3. Planning as related to food ordering menu planning service production schedules making staffing assignments and schedules.
  4. Overseeing food production work rules methods and standard operating procedures.



Note to Current State Employees:
The salary grade for this position is NC08(Salary Range:$37782 $66120). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors a pay increase MAY result.

About Wake Correctional Center:

Wake Correctional Center in Raleigh is a minimumsecurity prison for adult males. It is primarily a work unit in that 80 percent of the offenders leave the facility each day for incentive wage work assignments in various state agencies in the Wake County area. Offenders also work at other area adult correctionalfacilities and Correction Enterprises operations. There are also offenders nearing their release date that participate on the work release program leaving the facility to work for businesses in the community. Incentive wage work assignments are also available at the prison in the food service clothes house janitorial landscaping maintenance canteen and recreation areas.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities / Competencies


  1. Documented experience in sanitation preparing menus managing inventory and/or other largescale food service production activities.
  2. Documented supervision of employees and/or offender workers.

Our division categorizes the institutions into 3 custody levels which include minimum medium and close. The Division of Institutions has a duty to provide a secure and safe environment along with the proper care and supervision for every individual in our custody.
