Job Description
Head of Engineering / CTO
Location: Remote (South Africa or Philippines preferred)
Compensation:
- South Africa: $5000 $7500 USD/month
- Philippines: $4000 $6250 USD/month
Industry: AI / Content Marketing / Tech Startups
Schedule: Fulltime flexible hours with some overlap to EST
About the Role
We re looking for a Head of Engineering / CTO to join a highgrowth startup at the forefront of AI and content marketing. This is a fulltime handson leadership role for someone who thrives in earlystage environments has experience building and scaling engineering teams and is excited to lead the development of an AIdriven platform from the ground up.
You ll be the key technical leader architecting solutions leading development and laying the foundations for future growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full engineering roadmap and technical architecture for a new AIenabled SaaS platform
- Design build and deploy solutions using RetrievalAugmented Generation (RAG) approaches
- Hire mentor and manage a remote team of developers
- Set up efficient engineering workflows and development infrastructure
- Work closely with the founder and product stakeholders to translate business goals into scalable technology
- Integrate with thirdparty APIs LLMs and cuttingedge AI/ML tools
- Maintain a high standard of code quality velocity and reliability in a fastmoving environment
Ideal Background
- Experience as a lead or founding engineer preferably in a startup or lean tech environment
- Strong handson experience with RAG pipelines vector databases and LLM integrations
- Familiarity with tools like LangChain Pinecone Weaviate OpenAI etc.
- Proficient in TypeScript Python or similar technologies
- Proven ability to recruit and lead engineering teams
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with nontechnical stakeholders
Nice to Have
- Background in content marketing SEO or digital media
- Experience integrating tools like Notion Webflow Zapier or Airtable
- Startup mindset: comfortable with ambiguity speed and evolving priorities
