HEAD BASEBALL COACH/CASTLETON GRADE 12

BASIC FUNCTION
The head baseball coach is responsible for the general oversight and leadership of all aspects of the baseball program.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- The coach will manage the daily operations of a NCAA Division III baseball program under the guidelines established by Vermont State University NCAA and the Little East Conference.
- Responsibilities include but not limited to practice and game preparation the supervision of the assistant coaching staff recruitment and retention of qualified studentathletes overseeing the academic success and studentathlete welfare.
- Assist in the care and maintenance of the baseball field.
- Manage team travel including transportation lodging and meals.
- Actively engage in alumni relations and fundraising activities.
- Perform other administrative duties within the Athletics and Recreation Department as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
General supervision is received from the Director of Athletics.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
General supervision over parttime assistant coaches graduate assistants student workers and student interns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree in sports administration recreation physical education or other appropriate discipline with a masters degree desirable plus two to four years relevant experience in coaching or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
Knowledge:
- Comprehensive knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Ability to deal effectively with students college personnel as well as professional NCAA compliance network and others outside of the university.
- Understanding of the educational goals and objectives of Vermont State University including attention to accessibility and diversity equity and inclusion.
- Understanding of the psychological and cultural characteristics of economically and educationally disadvantaged students particularly in a rural setting.
- Awareness of developmental holistic and proactive approaches to student success.
Skills:
- Strong and varied technical skills and interest in recreational activities.
- Broad base of knowledge and skills related to athletic facilities management coaching recruiting and other relevant experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience with (or ability to learn) technologies such as SSE Colleague SelfService Slate Microsoft products and Perceptive Content.
- Proven record of accountability and followthrough with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational and problemsolving skills.
Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to positively influence student skill development such as communication skills leadership skills academic skills technical skills noncognitive or soft skills and social skills.
- Demonstrated ability to foster student development in the attainment of student success goals such as academic purpose sense of belonging/identity agency career readiness civic readiness access & equity.

- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals within the University and capacity to work as part of a team to collaborate and choose student success.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with college personnel as well as external stakeholders in carrying out the various coordination liaison and other aspects of the job.
- Ability to work weekends and evenings.
