This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective on July 1 2025 and July 1 2026.

JOB DUTIES:
Are you an experienced accountant or financial auditor looking for a challenging position that may include traveling around Eastern Montana If working in a regulatory environment while serving the citizens of Montana interests you consider joining our Unemployment Insurance Contributions (tax) Bureau as our next UI Field Representative (tax auditor) in the Billings and surrounding areas.
Duties as a UI Tax Field Representative (Auditor) include but are not limited to:
- Examine financial records and legal documents remotely or at the employers place of business or authorized representatives office to ensure wages are correctly reported.
- Conduct audits and prepare reports to meet the US Department of Labors quality standards.
- Research and verify facts related to employment relationships.
- Collect delinquent quarterly payroll reports and associated taxes by contacting employers via phone secure messaging email or mail.
- Act as a local ambassador for UI Contributions and other department services by developing relationships and providing employer education opportunities on topics such as UI tax law and rules reporting requirements and electronic reporting tools.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
If you are the right person for this opportunity you will have the following knowledge skills or abilities:
- Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles and procedures business law and payroll reporting.
- Ability to apply theories methods laws and rules in complex situations.
- Skill in building and maintaining working relationships with the ability to successfully work with challenging customers.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to apply sound judgment in adverse situations and work analytically under stress while extracting information using various interviewing techniques.
- Strong skill in working independently with the ability to be selfmotivated and highly organized.
- Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Knowledge of Unemployment Insurance tax law/rule is preferred but not required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The above knowledge skills and abilities may be obtained through:
- A combination of directly related education and experience equivalent to five (5) years.
- Directly related education can be a Bachelors degree in accounting or business or coursework that includes advanced level accounting.
- Direct related experience can include accounting payroll and/or auditing work experience.
OR
- Any combination of equivalent experience and education to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.
REQUIREMENT: Must have a valid drivers license.
