Mechanical Designer (I II III)
FullTime Compensation: $80000$90000
Reports to: VP of Mechanical Engineering & Mechanical Engineers
Location: Indianapolis IN (with occasional travel)
Position Overview
Were hiring Mechanical Designers at multiple experience levels (I II III) to support the design and coordination of building systems across commercial institutional and civic projects. Working closely with Mechanical Engineers and Project Managers youll contribute to HVAC system design site evaluations and technical documentation for a wide variety of facilities including schools libraries theaters and more.
This is a handson role for designers who are passionate about sustainability technical precision and meaningful contributions to the built environment.
What Youll Do
Design and specify HVAC systems under the supervision of licensed Mechanical Engineers.
Create ductwork and piping layouts perform load calculations and select appropriate equipment.
Prepare construction documents using Revit (or actively train to proficiency).
Perform energy code compliance calculations and documentation.
Assist with cost estimating and control systems design.
Conduct field surveys and site assessments to document existing conditions.
Attend coordination meetings with clients contractors and internal team members.
Collaborate across MEP disciplines to ensure proper clearances and integration.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Mechanical Designer I
Option 1: Bachelors degree in engineering or related technology 5 years of relevant experience
Option 2: Associate degree in engineering or technology 10 years of relevant experience
Mechanical Designer II
Option 1: Bachelors degree 10 years of experience
Option 2: Associate degree 20 years of experience
Additional Requirements
Knowledge of or active learning in HVAC systems building codes and industry standards
Familiarity with Revit and the ability to learn design workflows quickly
Strong communication and documentation skills
Understanding of construction processes and site safety protocols
Work Environment & Travel
Primarily officebased with fieldwork as needed
Required travel to project sites client meetings and construction observations
Must comply with sitespecific safety standards (PPE may be required)
Occasional evening weekend or overnight travel as project demands dictate
Team & Reporting
Reports directly to the VP of Mechanical Engineering and projectspecific Mechanical Engineers
May supervise or provide support to production staff as needed
