Job Description

The Center for Wellness and Counseling (CWC) is seeking candidates with strong clinical skills who have experience with and deep commitment to serving the diverse student body we are privileged to support. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative team of counselors who genuinely love the work we do and the people with whom we work who strive to support one another who live into our value of prioritizing worklife balance and who collaborate with colleagues across campus to promote systems of wellness and respond to students in struggle. Applicants with a current MN license in their field of practice will be prioritized and independent license is preferred. Licenseeligible applicants with experience in higher education will be considered and individuals in need of supervision hours required for MN licensure as a psychologist or social worker and who have experience in higher education are encouraged to apply.

Summary of Position 

This position is 0.75 FTE and works 9 months per year with the summers off.

The CWC Counselor maximizes student success and wellbeing by providing support for mental health and developmental concerns through counseling referrals to on and off campus community resources crisis management consultation to the Augsburg Community and programming on mental health and wellness issues. This position provides mental health counseling from an equity based model through scheduled appointments walkin services triage and crisis response. When qualifications and interest allows this position takes leadership of department efforts directed toward outreach/programming group therapy or working with underserved populations. 

Primary Responsibilities

  •  Mental health counseling triage walkin response and crisis intervention.
  •  Develop and implement outreach and health/wellbeing promotion opportunities to the Augsburg community.
  •  Referral guidanceconnect students with resources and supports on and offcampus.
  •  Prepare timely and accurate documentation. 
  •  Provide consultative services to faculty staff parents and external service providers.
  •  Participation in staff meetings and case consultations.
  •  Participation in campus and community events.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in regular case consultations with internal and external clinicians.
  • Active formal and informal engagement with a diverse student body.
  • Offer expertise and insight to shape the Center for Wellness and Counseling and campuswide policy and procedures related to wellbeing and mental health.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • All other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Typical work environment is an office working at a desk and sitting with counseling clients.
  • Augsburg University operates largely inperson but there are some opportunities for limited remote work.
  • Provision of services is a mix of inperson and virtual predominantly in person due to the nature of working on a vibrant and engaged college campus.
  • Additional expectation to be present in classrooms gathering spaces campus departments residence halls etc. when leading outreach and health/wellbeing promotion opportunities and when attending campus events.
  • Regular computer and phone use. 

Qualifications :

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree or higher in counseling psychology social work or marriage and family therapy.
  • Strong clinical multicultural competencies and experience working with a diverse community in mental health services. 
  • Currently licensed license eligible or pursuing licensure hours in the state of Minnesota.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed in the state of Minnesota.
  • Experience in a higher education counseling setting. 
  • One year or more of professional experience (pre and post degree internship experience may be applicable in some circumstances) in a higher education setting.

  • Ability to practice from a stance of cultural humility honoring each students goals cultural background and identities.
  • Knowledge of issues relevant to collegestudent populations.
  • Strong skills and interest in providing community outreach and engagement opportunities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated organizational abilities especially ability to maintain client records.
  • Ability to be attentive to details be accurate be precise.
  • Ability to lead/teach and mentor others.
  • Ability to reason/analyze; maintain confidentiality; and demonstrate patience understanding.
  • Ability to show initiative; organize workflow; manage one or more projects; think and respond flexibly; and handle frequent interruptions.

Compensation & Benefits at Augsburg

  • The compensation range is $53000 $60000 per year DOQ (For illustrative purposes only if the position was a 1.0 FTE the fulltime equivalent of the compensation range would be $70000 $80000 per year).
