Library Media Specialist
The WMHS Library Media Specialist is an active member of the school community working with students and colleagues to organize and facilitate media literacy and digital citizenship instruction and activities. The Library Media Specialist will partner with staff to support the educational mission of the school. This job involves competencies across: library information literacy and instructional technology.
Role and Responsibilities: Library & Media
- Collaborates with classroom teachers as a partner in the instructional process
- Collaborates to design teach and assess learning experiences that incorporate inquiry learning information literacies in their formats critical thinking and selfassessment
- Maintains an organized and welcoming facility that helps students become independent users of the library
- Develops and maintains resources appropriate to the curriculum the learners and the instructional strategies of the school community
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students and staff
- Assists students in locating library materials and in developing knowledge skill and abilities to gain independence and fully utilize the library
- Assists in reinforcement in reading language arts mathematics computer instruction media and other skills
- Assists in maintaining the circulation desk operations and facilitates daily Chromebook loans
- Maintains the library collection through the AccessIT library database
- Serves as a reference guide for students
- Arranges book displays exhibits and other items to provide an appropriate learning resource environment and maximize students interest in reading and learning
- Assists with the selection of current library materials and resources and in eliminating outdated books and other materials
- Any other related duties as assigned
Technology
- Assists in the utilization and maintenance of instructional and noninstructional library equipment including personal computers and Chromebooks
- Supports students in their use of instructional technology including Google Workspace online research and databases
- Must be able to apply skills and knowledge of school media services library automation and technology integration
- Promotes instructional technology to improve learning
- Operates audio visual equipment as needed

- Aligns the School Library Program with the mission goals and objectives of the school and school district
Qualifications & Skill Set:
- MA State certification as a School Library Media Specialist Required
- At least three years of teaching experience or equivalent in the field of school library science preferred
- A strong background and understanding of both high school literacy and instructional technology is required for this position
- Experience with diverse populations is highly desirable
- Strong background in literature commensurate with grade levels of school
- Effective written and communication skills
- Experience in Instructional Technology in an academic setting
- Demonstrated skills and knowledge of both print and nonprint materials and educational technology
- Familiarity with current library systems.
