Job Posting: Library Assistant III - Circulation (P/T)
Department: Library
Reports to: Department Supervisor
Salary: $15.63 - $17.06
General Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Circulation Librarian performs the full scope of clerical and para-professional responsibilities in the operation of the circulation department. This is a part time position that would also include shifts at the South Suburban library branch.
Essential Functions
The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.
- Trains and revises the work of volunteers in the Circulation Department which includes instruction of day-to-day duties.
- Prepares and returns library material to appropriate location utilizing alphabetical and numerical filing systems.
- Catalog and process periodicals and magazines.
- Consults with supervisor prior to discharging any library materials that appear unsuitable for re-shelving.
- Refers patrons (either on phone or in person) to appropriate individual or department; aids impaired patrons by locating materials suitable to their needs.
- Consults with supervisor for the purpose of control and arrangement of library materials in main library.
- Checks in and out materials to patrons both manually and on computer terminal.
- Establishes eligibility of patrons for issuance of a library card; prepares library cards.
- Collects payments and issues receipts.
- Keeps apprised of library policies and procedures.

Education Certification & Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid Drivers License
