NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK Minuteman High School is looking to hire a Library and Building Paraprofessional/Technical Assistant for Career and Technical Education and academics. This role is primarily located in the library media center and Reading in academic and vocational classrooms may be required as well. A successful candidate interacts positively with instructors staff and students while facilitating the smooth and efficient operation of the library media center academic or vocational classroom. While located in the library the assistant works professionally individually and collaboratively to provide highquality services. These services include assistance with the librarys educational and technical resources materials circulation book processing teaching support record keeping displays and activities clerical duties and student supervision. In the reading classroom the paraprofessional will supervise and encourage students as they read independently and/or work on a computer program while the English teacherworks with students in small groups. Troubleshooting computer issues and motivating students to remain on task are essential duties. In the academic or vocational classroom the candidate is responsible for assisting teachers with classroom instruction and in shop settings. Individuals applying for this position will work collaboratively with instructors. They will participate effectively in schoolwide department goals and academicvocational integration activities. Ensure personal professional growth on a yearly basis with a focus on continuous improvement in student learning. Major Responsibilities: Supervise students at all times. Develop positive relationships with students and staff. Implement program/classroom safety procedures. Locate and compile information and prepare activities demonstrations equipment and other materials used in the Library Media Center CTE programs and academics. Tutor individual students or groups in subjects that require basic to advanced knowledge of CTE programs and academics. Review students work for correct procedures to develop skills and techniques related to CTE programs and academics. Transport students as needed in Minuteman vehicles. Assume classroom and library media center responsibilities in absence of teacher Encourage struggling readers while managing classroom routines and expectations. Assist students and staff to locate and use library resources including book selection at the appropriate level and interest ebooks audiobooks databases and other online resources. Support students with essay writing as sophomores prepare for MCAS testing. Provide supports as indicated on student IEPs and 504s. Communicate with parents and special education teachers to monitor student progress. Engaged in a professional culture of competence caring and collaboration. Works independently and takes initiative with tasks. Ability to work in a busy multitasking environment with a willingness to learn new skills. Answer media center phone and email. Respond to questions and requests. Redirect as necessary. Serve as a teaching assistant during library classes and for student walkins. Plan set up and maintain themed displays and activities. Assist with library digital communications and the library media center website. Consistent and ontime attendance is required. Other duties as necessary. QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. Ability to work as part of a team and to foster a positive working relationship with students and staff. Preferred experience in and knowledge of Career and Technical Education. Proficient with the use of technology. Ability to create a healthy environment for students to learn. Have experience working with students on IEPs. Teaching experience preferred. Flexibility and open to new ideas and processes. Have the ability to assist students within a variety of shop settings. Knowledge and or experience with READ 180 a plus. Conditions of employment Equipment Used: Copier fax machine smart board phone computer hand tools Physical Demands: Most of the time is spent on your feet working with and observing students while they work in a career and technical program or academic area. On occasions you may need to move or lift light articles. This position may require long periods of standing and lifting up to 50lbs. The teacher may also be required to operate hand tools/motor equipment and may work in confined spaces with exposure to dust smoke fumes and gases. Evaluation Schedule: Yearly
