DescriptionThe Medical Technologist 1 performs diagnostic testing on patient samples to aid physicians in the diagnosis and/or monitoring of various disease states. Follows standardized procedures and helps prepare samples for testing. Analyzes test results for accuracy acceptability and critical limits. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with patients physicians pathologists staff and other individuals. The position relies on education and training to complete responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Productivity: This will have been satisfactorily performed when
- Appropriate agespecific patient care needs adult/geriatric/pediatric and neonatal are assessed and interpreted based on the patients status and the agespecific needs of each individual as evidenced by accurate completion of competency checklist for agespecific criteria.
- An acceptable productivity level without a significant error rate on a variety of medical technology procedures including but not limited to performing tests on cells and microorganisms in body fluids examining growth patterns of bacteria and fungus in patient specimens and cultures analyzing blood and other body fluids and performing blood compatibility testing is performed at all times.
- Preanalytical testing including but not limited to specimen integrity verification of sample identification centrifugation of samples is conducted 100% of the time as evidenced by no more than 2 incidents per year.
- The accuracy of testing results is verified and reported in accordance with the specified regulations and timeframes at all times.
- Quality & Compliance: This will have been satisfactorily performed when
- Specimen integrity result accuracy and interresult validity is reviewed by evaluating testing materials to produce valid results as evidenced by no more than 2 complaints or incidents per year.
- Unacceptable specimens are identified with written documentation of that inadequacy and contacts the patients physician or nurse for possible recollection.
- Quality control and quality assurance is completed daily according to policy and procedure.
- Appropriate personnel are informed immediately to determine the validity of test results when difficulties are encountered.
- Actively participates in departmental or organizational quality/continuous performance improvement activity as evidenced by involvement in at least two minor quality improvement activities.
- Teamwork /Customer Service: This will have been satisfactorily performed when

QualificationsExperience Preferred but not required
Education Bachelors Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) Medical Technology (MT) or Chemical Physical or Biological Science
Training One year training in a NAACLS approved MT/CLS program

Licensure Licensed in Louisiana as a Clinical Laboratory ScientistGeneralist (CLSG) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist Specialist (CLSS) with Registry in applicable specialty for department and position.
