Help protect one of Floridas most vital resources water with a career at theSouthwest Florida Water Management District (District).
The District is a government agency whose mission is to protect water resources minimize flood risks and ensure the publics water needs are met. We serve a population of nearly 6million people in westcentral Florida as directed by state law.
The Land Management Specialist is responsible for assisting the land managers in implementing land management initiatives on the Districts conservation lands totaling more than 460000 positions primary duties will focus on public recreational opportunities on the Districts conservation lands. This involves implementing recreation maintenance projects and regularly interacting with the public. The specialist will also be responsible for recording maintenance and recreation data in Land Managements database routinely participating on prescribed burns occasionally responding to wildfires with oversight per the request of the Florida Forest Service overseeing contractors and overseeing improvements to the Districts recreation program including campground and volunteer oversight.

The starting salary range for the Scientific Technician positionreflects the minimum to 25% of the compensation. The starting salary will be based on the education and experience of the successful candidate. The District conducts annual performance evaluations that may award applicable pay increases based on positive employee performance.
The position requires the ability to perform continuous repetitive tasks (to include keyboarding) with one or both hands. Frequently lifts and carries 10pound objects with an occasional requirement to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to occasionally squat. Must be able to operate a District vehicle with attached equipment for two hours or more at a time. May be exposed to extremes in temperature and humidity as well as a variety of pests including mosquitos and ticks. Must be able to occasionally bend squat climb crawl and swim and frequently reach above shoulder accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Satisfactory completion of a work capacity test is required within the first 6 months upon hire and every 2 years thereafter for employees to conduct fire management functions of Engine Crew Member and Line Crew Member. The test entails completing a onemile timed walk in sixteen minutes.
The District plays a critical emergency management role before during and afterEOC declared events and/or in conjunction with the overall emergency management strategy operations and recovery for the State of Florida. The employee therefore may be required to perform duties as assigned before during and after major storm events and emergency situations such as hurricanes wildfires or other declared emergencies. Such duties may include the employees normal work functions or other emergency support functions as determined necessary by the major storm or wildfire events this position couldtravel for extended hours or days.

The District will determine eligibility for employment solely from the information provided on a District employment application. All applicants are required to complete in full the District employment application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants who are within 30 days of graduation if selected are not allowed to start until all minimum qualifications are met.
The primary work location for this position is out of the Brooksville FL office. This position is eligible for overtime for hours worked over 40 hours in a week.
