Job Description

The Ankeny Community School District (CSD) enjoys a reputation as one of the premier school districts in Iowa and the midwest with students staff and parents unified in their efforts to excel in academics athletics the arts and activities. Located in the heart of Iowa Ankeny is just 6 miles from the capital city of Des Moines The District serves over 12500 PK12 students. Vocal Music Teacher

Position Summary

The position of Music Teacher (Middle School) was established for the purpose of educating students about the fundamental concepts of music theory such as rhythm melody pitch and tempo. They conduct exercises like vocalization harmonizing singing and playing musical instruments. They may also lead rehearsals in preparation for the schools musical performances. The role of teacher also provides support for developing students success in academics interpersonal skills developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines: collaborating with other teachers other professional staff and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding to a wide range of inquiries from students parents or guardians regarding instructional program and student progress.

Required Qualifications:

  • Iowa State Teacher License
  • Bachelors degree in position related area
  • Previous experience teaching a music class preferred
  • Endorsements:
    • K8 Music
    • 512 Music

Essential Functions

  • Showcases and educates indepth knowledge of general styles of music to students.
  • Preparing students for school concerts and planned music experiences.
  • Incorporating musical instruments and movement in lessons.
  • Designs instruction (e.g. lesson plans individualized instruction; diverse learning styles/needs etc.) for the purpose for ensuring all students are engaged and participating in individual and classroom learning objectives.
  • Collaborates with all stakeholders ( e.g. students parents colleagues administration etc.) for the purpose of establishing leadership and positive relationships while focusing on high expectations and continuous improvement for student learning.
  • Develops and guides learning in partnership with students (e.g. classroom mission and learning goals; strategies and processes; student recognition and celebration; etc.) for the purposes of ensuring continuous improvement for student learning in alignment with state and district standards.
  • Evaluates individual student and class performance (e.g. analyzes assessment data and other comparative data) for the purposes of gauging and subsequently adjusting instruction to improve individual and class performance.
  • Implements current best practice instruction and resources (e.g. focus on student needs/goals classroom priorities etc) for the purpose of improving and enhancing student learning in alignment with state and district standards.
  • Maintains documentation and required data.
  • Manages classroom structure and procedures (e.g. behavioral expectations positive classroom culture etc) for the purpose of establishing a positive safe and orderly optimal learning environment to support students in achieving classroom and individual goals.
  • Models positive behaviors (e.g. Iowa Teaching Standards Code of Professional and Ethical Standards etc) for the purpose of promoting appropriate social and interpersonal behavior in alignment with district goals.
  • Participates in a variety of meetings and professional development opportunities for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information to perform essential functions.

Other Functions

  • Participate in staff development training programs faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Provide excellent customer service and assistance to all employees fostering a welcoming and approachable atmosphere.
  • Work efficiently and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrate respect and professionalism in all interactions with colleagues students and families.
  • Use positive and professional communication in all interactions.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and policies established by the Ankeny Community School District to ensure the safety of oneself and others.
  • Support District goals and objectives while adhering to all District policies contributing to the overall success of the school community.
  • Demonstrate regular and dependable attendance to ensure smooth District operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Working Environment

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: lifting carrying pushing pulling climbing reaching driving standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
