Job Description

POSITION TITLE:Aide In School Suspension

EXEMPTION STATUS:NonExempt

REPORTS TO:Principal

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:10 months;school year

HOURLY SALARY RANGE:Minimum $14.02 Midpoint $17.52 Maximum $21.02

Primary Purpose:

Supervise students assigned to In School Suspension. Maintain a highly structured and orderly classroom environment. Work under the general supervision of the principal and direct supervision of a teacher.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification

Associate degree 48 college hours at an institute of higher learning or meet formal academic assessment

Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills

Ability to assist with classroom instruction

Ability to work well with children

Effective communication (verbal and written) organizational and interpersonal skills

Proficient computer skills to develop spreadsheets databases and perform word processing

Proficient file maintenance skills

Experience:

Experience working with children

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

  • Assist individual students with completing assignments from teacher.
  • Consult teacher regarding student assignments.
  • Distribute collect and check student assignments for accuracy.
  • Maintain individual files of completed student assignments and return to classroom teacher.

Student Management

  • Maintain a highly structured and orderly classroom environment.
  • Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies administrative regulations and Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Record student attendance and discipline referrals using personal computer.
  • Supervise students assigned to ISS during lunch and restroom breaks.
  • Maintain confidentiality.

Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in professional learning activities to improve jobrelated skills and demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Maintain familiarity with district initiatives to better serve the needs of students.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain appropriate communication and a professional relationship with students parents and colleagues.
  • Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the district and demonstrates behavior that is professional ethical and responsible as set out in the Texas Educator Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of student and district information.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard classroom equipment computer peripherals other electronic devices
Posture: Prolonged sitting/standing frequent kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling twisting
Motion: Frequent walking; frequent repetitive hand motions keyboarding use of mouse wrist flexion/extension
Lifting: Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds without assistance 3055 pounds with assistance and more than 55 pounds with appropriate assistance
Environment: Work inside and outside; regular exposure to noise; occasional exposure to contagious diseases
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruption
