Position Description


Job Title: Assistant Principal & Lead Learning Support

FLSA: Exempt

Job Status: Full Time


Reporting Functions: Reports to Principal; share supervisory responsibility for professional staff with school principal. Supervise teachers custodians aides clerical personnel and others as assigned.


Job Function: Assists the principal with administrative responsibilities to develop and implement the total school program and promoting the educational wellbeing of each student in the school. These include but are not limited to overseeing the professional development of the faculty providing assistance with faculty issues and training coordinating the Middle States Accreditation program for the school. The Assistant Principal will also act as the Lead Learning Support teacher who is responsible for providing specialized educational support in reading writing math and all other subjects to students.


Assistant Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Supervise school operations in principals absence.

  • Assists in the establishment of goals and objectives for the school. Promote a positive caring climate for learning.

  • Provides leadership in planning implementing and evaluating instructional programs. Assist with master schedule development and allocation of resources.

  • Implement and coordinate a Professional Development Plan for each member of the faculty.

  • Assist with the planning/administration of daily school activities including class schedules attendance monitoring teacher assignments and extracurricular activity schedules.

  • Assist in the planning coordination and evaluation of inservice programs and pilot programs for the faculty and staff.

  • Implement a mentoring program for new teachers; ensure that the proper paperwork and orientation is completed.

  • Promote the development of the staff by monitoring staff performance and offering guidance and enhanced skills including classroom technique.

  • Communicates and carries out established policies delegates and accepts responsibility for completion of tasks and communicates program goals objectives and policies to the community.

  • Assist with any issues including disciplinary that arise between faculty staff parents or students. This includes all parent/student concerns or complaints with the faculty.

  • Coordinate the Middle States Accreditation program for continued school accreditation. This includes monitoring the completion of each action plan and completing all necessary reports.

  • Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.

  • Actively establish and maintain appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe orderly effective and productive environment. Upholds St. Michael the Archangel Schools discipline procedures.

  • Supervise and manage students behavior in the classroom hallways lunchroom before and after school etc. to foster a positive and healthy learning environment for all.

  • Attend all required inservice training meetings and workshops. Attend and participate in faculty meetings.

  • Actively be involved in the school community. Attend school events activities fundraisers etc.

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Principal.


Learning Support Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and 504 plans for students and monitor their progress throughout the school year. Participate in IEP meetings and other required meetings.

  • Offer support and strategies to enhance instruction and promote growth throughout the curriculum. Collaborate with teachers of all grade levels to promote the learning and implementation of instruction.

  • Teach students per their individualized reading plans to small groups or individually using researchbased strategies and resources. Motivate students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge to provide an effective reading writing and mathematical foundation in accordance with their abilities.

  • Meet regularly with classroom teachers to plan education instructions that relate to the students individual needs or as requested by the classroom teacher.

  • Evaluate student performances during each session and provide feedback. Maintain a fair accurate and timely assessment of policies and procedures.

  • Communicate with students parents and teachers on a regular basis about schedules assessments and individual student needs. Meet with parents during parentteacher conferences throughout the school year.



Additional Condition of Employment

Candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing have a deep knowledge of the Catholic faith and agree to live by the tenets of the Catholic faith including in lifestyle and on personal social media.


Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelors Degree in Primary Education Special Education or equivalent required.

  • MEdCurriculum and Instruction PA Administrators Certificate preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a primary classroom setting.


Other Requirements
  • Demonstrates a sound educational philosophy; instructional competence and understanding of school operations.

  • Experience in the Professional Development of teachers.

  • Demonstrate ability to plan organize and modify an educational activity set by the classroom teacher.

  • Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a school community.

  • Leadership qualities that include a commitment to innovation and creativity.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; experience with a Catholic school population.

  • The ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.

  • Exhibit a high degree of integrity loyalty and dependability and have a strong work ethic.

  • Must be a self starter and able to work independently with strong organizational skills.


PRIOR TO INTERVIEW: Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH) Pennsylvania Child Abuse History and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvanias Act 153 of 2014 (No less than 1 year old) as well as attendance at the online Protecting Gods Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to stand walk sit stoop bend push pull talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and to operate standard office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is continuously interacting with the public staff and students. The employee frequently must meet multiple demands from several people.


Working Conditions: Elementary school environment; normal work hours are Monday Friday 8 AM to 4 PM. May be required to work in excess of normal work hours to attend meetings events or due to nonroutine or emergency situations that may arise.
