Job Description
Position Summary:Thoreau Elementary School is seeking a passionate dedicated and dynamic General Music Teacher to join our vibrant school community. This fulltime position involves teaching general music to students in grades K5 integrating singing movement instrumental play and music literacy. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in music education cultural responsiveness and socialemotional learning and is enthusiastic about contributing to a collaborative and creative school :Current and valid MA DESE teaching license in Music (All Levels)Strong grounding in multicultural music education and culturally responsive teaching practicesExperience with thematic and integrated curriculum development across disciplinesCommitment to supporting the socialemotional development of students through musicExcellent accompaniment skills on piano or guitarOutstanding interpersonal communication and classroom management skillsAbility to foster a joyful and inclusive learning environmentResponsibilities:Design and deliver a comprehensive general music curriculum aligned with state and district standardsPlan and implement instruction that develops students skills in singing rhythm movement listening improvisation and instrumental performance including recorder and percussion instrumentsEncourage creative expression through music movement and dramaFoster a safe welcoming and engaging classroom culture that celebrates student voice and identityRegularly assess student learning and provide timely feedback through progress reports and parent communicationCollaborate with classroom teachers on interdisciplinary projects that integrate music with other areas of learningPartner with the districts K12 music staff to align program goals and ensure continuity in the music curriculumDirect the school chorus including planning rehearsals and leading performances during and beyond the school dayParticipate actively in school events staff meetings and district professional development opportunitiesMaintain open respectful communication with students families and colleaguesSupport the mission and values of Thoreau Elementary and the Concord Public SchoolsAll other duties as assigned by the building Principal Our School Community:Thoreau Elementary is a vibrant and inclusive learning community where students are nurtured academically socially and emotionally.
