Job Description

Overview

Professional health care provider who assesses and evaluates acute psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department and coordinates/facilitates a level of care referral/placement of psychiatric referrals from outlying communities. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the physical psychosocial educational safety age and related needs appropriate to the patients served.

Responsibilities

Patient Care
* Provides a high level of assessments for patients in the Emergency Department and on the medical units.

* Coordinates the appropriate level of care based on the assessment process.

* Demonstrates accuracy of documentation of assessments interventions and patient responses as evidenced by the appropriate documentation systems.

* Review clinical information for patients referred from outside facilities to determine the level of care and facilitate admission to FMC BHS when indicated.

* Coordinates activities to provide the community with resources and referrals including assisting potential patients in gaining access to federal and state supported systems.

* Provides clinical precertification information to patients managed care companies insurance companies and other thirdparty reviewers to establish the number of certified days.

* Functions as a liaison between physicians and families to coordinate with transportation services and other mental health facilities to organize the admission procedures.

* Effectively participates with the multidisciplinary team in planning and providing care. Supports team decisions and articulates the appropriate rationale for those decisions.

* Participates positively in the orientation of new staff student interns and others.
Education
* Participates in creating and sustaining a learning environment supported by evidencebased practice and research.

* Focuses on personal development areas engaging in professional/collegial interactions with peers and students.

* Work collaboratively with peers and other healthcare providers and participating in ongoing inservices and educational seminars.

* Participates in the mentoring and education of colleagues and students.
Documentation
* Maintains and completes all documentation and patient records in EMR in accordance with QA parameters.
Compliance/Safety
* Responsible for reporting any safetyrelated incident in a timely fashion through the Midas/RDE tool; attends all safetyrelated training programs; performs work in a safe manner; monitors work environment for possible safety issues and ensures others are also performing work in a safe manner.

* Stays current and complies with state and federal regulations/statutes and company policies that impact the employees area of responsibility.

* If required for the position ensures all certifications and/or licenses are uptodate and valid prior to expiration dates.

* Completes all company mandatory modules and required jobspecific training in the specified time frame.

* Maintains timely documentation of assessments interventions EMR entries and patient responses.

* Adheres to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety as well as all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.

* Practices in a safe and costeffective manner.

Qualifications

Education
RN:
Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing Required BSN Required
or
MSW LMSW LCSW:
Masters Degree in social work from a regionally accredited college or university Required
MA MS MC:
Masters Degree in counseling from a regionally accredited college or university Required
Certification & Licensures
RN:
Current RN license within the State of Arizona Required
BLS (American Heart Association) certification Required
CPI Training Seclusion & Restraint Credentialing successfully completed Required within 90 days of hire.
Fingerprint Clearance Card application number Required
Fingerprint Clearance Card required within 90 days.

MSW LMSW LCSW MA MS MC:
LMSW LCSW LMFT or LPC Preferred
BLS (American Heart Association) certification Required
CPI Training Seclusion & Restraint Credentialing successfully completed Required within 90 days of hire Fingerprint Clearance Card application number Required upon hire
Fingerprint Clearance Card Required within 90 days of hire.
Experience
RN:
Minimum of one (1) year experience in acute care psychiatric nursing Required
MSW LMSW LCSW MA MS MC:
Minimum of two (2) years experience in a behavioral healthcare setting Required
