Job Description

The Cathedral of St. Matthew in Washington DC is hiring an Assistant to the Rector.
This role will ensure that the Cathedral maintains and projects a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and provides warm hospitality to callers and visitors.

other duties include:

  • Welcome new parishioners by sending emails and preparing welcome cards.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers superiors the general public and others.
  • Maintain the Rectors calendar on a daily weekly monthly and yearly basis to coordinate meetings events and liturgical duties.
  • Maintain the Cathedrals calendar on a daily weekly monthly and yearly basis to coordinate liturgical events.
  • Manage Priest and Deacon liturgy schedules.
  • Type correspondence and notes for Rector and send emails on his behalf. Proof and edit documents.
  • Manage database of parishioners and friends of the Cathedral this involves entering data and keeping it up to date.
  • Process the deposit of checks sent by donors and prepare thank you letters for the Rector.
  • Enter donor financial contributions in ParishSoft Family Suite and prepare yearly contribution statements.
  • Manage invitations to parishioners to assist as Minister of Hospitality for special liturgical events.
  • Coordinate volunteers to process Christmas Friends fundraising mailing ensuring that the mailing of 14000 letters gets done by the first week of December.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective team player with strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks under time sensitive deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • High proficiency in suite of Microsoft Office tools: Excel Word and Outlook.

Required Education and Experience

  • Must be a practicing Catholic who supports the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Some experience in an administrative/secretarial role.
  • Bilingual in Spanish would be very helpful.

Work Environment

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
  • This position is normally inoffice 5 days per week
