Job Description

DEPARTMENT: HELENA CORPS
POSITION TITLE: YOUTH SPORTS COACH
STATUS: NonExempt / Part Time / Temporary

This role operates seasonally from July 5 October 31.


GENERAL STATEMENT:

SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Youth Program Coach reports to the Athletic Director and is responsible for the supervision and coordination of the youth sports team. Managing the youth team and volunteers. Maintaining contact with parents team and volunteers of practices and game times. Coaching the youth to develop better skills in their sport as well as a good team player.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent
Minimum of professional or volunteer experience working with young adults and community members
Coaching athletic club leadership skill needed
Organizational experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Detail oriented and attention to detail

Outgoing and energetic
Strong use of the English language in verbal and written communication
Excellent telephone skills
Ability to work in a fastpaced environment and maintain poise under pressure
Ability to work independently and take imitative
Ability and willingness to keep information confidential
Ability to set priorities and accept responsibility willingly
Ability to exercise sound judgement
Ability to recruit lead and empower youth team and volunteers
Must have a valid Montana State drivers license
Must complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines including the ability to pass a TSA background check.
Must cooperate with The Salvation Army policies and procedures

SOFTWARERELATED SKILLS:

Microsoft Word and Excel helpful
Microsoft PowerPoint helpful
Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs with basic training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Work a nonstandard work week generally in accordance with The Salvation Army athletic programs tournaments gym rentals or events.
Represent The Salvation Army upholding its standards at all times
Work with the Athletic Director in planning snacks prayer and use of the gym for the team.
Keep team stats for individual players
Interface with the youths parents as the coach of the team
Manage team sports equipment and keep it in useable order and or notify the athletic director of needed replacements or repairs
Answer incoming phone calls and process mail accordingly
Maintain Department Logs and Stats
Maintain and update contact information for the team
Generate reports of attendance stats
Prepare and distribute practice schedules
Coordinate with the athletic director arrival/leave times for players for both home and away games
Assist in making sure the bus is clean after road trips
Perform other duties as assigned in accordance to the job description.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to sit walk stand bend squat climb kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
Ability to grasp push pull objects such as files file cabinet drawers and reach overhead
Ability to operate telephone
Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs
Ability to understand written information

Health Insurance: Low biweekly premiums for employeeonly coverage Kaiser HMO for those residing in a Kaiser service area Anthem EPO/PPO is available for those residing outside a Kaiser service area. Voluntary 1 and family coverage at additional cost. Delta Dental DHMO and DPPO dental insurance are offered.

Life and Voluntary Options. An employerpaid life insurance policy covers employees. Voluntary supplemental life shortterm and longterm disability plans are available.

Retirement Plans: Employerfunded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at five years eligible service time. Plus an employeefunded voluntary 403(b) option.

Parental Leave: The benefit is 40 hours of Paid Leave for qualifying events.

Sick Leave: 12 days of Sick Leave annually accruing from day one eligible for use after three months service time.

Paid Vacation:

  • Two weeks annually accruing from day one for nonexempt positions.
  • Four weeks annually accruing from day one for exempt positions.
  • Accrued vacation is eligible for use after six months service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays 1 floating holiday per year
