DEFINITION:
Guides staff of speechlanguage pathologists and audiologists in an intensive rehabilitation facility providing comprehensive screening diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients exhibiting all types of speech language and hearing disorders.Directs assigns and evaluates the work of subordinates engaged in treating communication disorders.
Evaluates existing and future needs and services; establishes goals objectives and standards of the speech pathology services within the general framework of hospital procedures and established professional standards.
Conducts evaluations of existing programs to resolve if the defined needs are being addressed or whether revision of the goals objectives or the program is required.
Guides all aspects of the communication disorders program including speechlanguage pathology and audiology research and professional education and head trauma/cognitive programs.
Plans and directs an interdisciplinary program rehabilitation and follow up for the treatment of patients.
Assesses budgetary needs and prepares budget.
Coordinates and reviews the ongoing quality assurance program and evaluates program audits to ensure compliance with new regulations and/or procedures.
Leads orientation and training for medical professionals.
Resolves problems concerning the provision of diagnostic evaluations the interpretation and analysis of test results and treatment goals for patients.
Represents the Department in meetings with hospital/medical administration medical and facility staff and representatives of other agencies/institutions within or outside the County.
Establishes cultivate and maintains referral resource relationships with community agencies and individuals to ensure a referral base for Departmental clinical programs.
Develops and maintains support from outside philanthropic/grant organizations.
Minimum Requirements:
Option I: A Doctoral degree* in speechlanguage pathology or audiology from an accredited college or university AND Three (3) years postdoctoral field experience in the application of communication disorders principles two (2) years of which must have been at a supervisory level**.
Option II:A Masters degree* in speechlanguage pathology or audiology from an accredited college or university AND Four (4) years postmasters field experience in the application of communication disorders principles three (3) years of which must have been at a supervisory level**.
No outofclass experience will be accepted.
License:
Current licensure by the California SpeechLanguage Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board to practice speechlanguage pathology or audiology AND Current Certificate of Clinical Competence as a SpeechLanguage Pathologist issued by the American SpeechLanguage Hearing Association.
Physical Class II Light:This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10pound limit and some bending stooping or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved.
Special Requirement Information:
*In order to receive credit for the required degree/coursework certification a legible copy of the official diploma or official transcripts or from the accredited institution which shows the area of specialization needs to be provided with the application or via email indicating your name the exam name and the exam number to within 7 calendar days of filing your application online.
**Supervisory level involves providing direct supervision to planning assigning and reviewing work of staff in the unit evaluating employee performance counseling and recommending in the subject area.
****Healthcare Setting includes but are not limited to acute care hospitals urgent care centers rehabilitation centers nursing homes and other longterm care facilities specialized outpatient services (e.g. hemodialysis dentistry podiatry chemotherapy endoscopy and pain management clinics) and outpatient surgery centers.
Desirable Qualifications:
Additional credit will be given to applicants who possess the following desirable qualifications:
Additional years of supervisory experience in the application of communication disorders principles.
Experience in a healthcare setting*** as a Licensed Speech Language Pathologist in the application of communication disorders principles.
Examination Content:
Examination will consist of an evaluation of education and experience based upon application information desirable qualifications and supplemental questionnaire weighted 100%.
Achieving a passing score of 70% or higher is needed to be placed on the eligible register.
Eligibility Information:Applications will be processed as they are received and added to the list accordingly.
Scores will be valid for 12 months from the date of results notice.
No person may complete this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.

The resulting eligible register for this examination will be used to staff our vacancies throughout DHS.
