Arcadis seeks aResident Engineer (RE)to join the team California toperform a wide variety of professional engineering work in either a field or office setting. The RE is directly responsible for the administration of Caltrans construction contracts and reviews the work of contractor forces in accordance with the Caltrans Construction Manual and all governing specifications.

Please note that this job posting is intended to build a talent pipeline for upcoming oncall opportunities in transportation construction and engineering. It is not for a specific immediate position. Instead we are collecting a pool of qualified candidates to fill future roles as needs arise within the industry across California.

The Resident Engineer reviews the progress of the work to ensure compliance with the contract documents. This will include progressive monitoring of materials and methods used as well as inspection of the finished products before acceptance. The RE assures appropriate measurement payments are made as necessary and all project documentation is completed in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Additionally the RE is responsible to proactively review the contract documents to anticipate identify and/or prepare any change orders needed to resolve conflicts and/or recommend improvements.

Role Accountabilities:

  • Ensures the safety of Construction Management employees State employees and Contractors employees as well as the traveling public by observing the contractors operations and traffic conditions making recommendations and taking corrective action when necessary.
  • Review contractor operations for compliance with CAL OSHA regulations.
  • Provides direction to staff to ensure complete accurate and timely contract records pertaining to construction progress job expenditures budget programs and work order balances are maintained in accordance with the State and Federal regulations and laws
  • Confers with contractors regarding compliance with plans and quality of work and construction activity
  • Performs field inspections of contractors work to determine compliance with plans specifications special provisions utility agreements etc.
  • Prepares reports as well as reviews and incorporates the daily inspection reports from Field Inspectors in documenting the Contractors activities
  • Maintains accurate and complete project records and ensures compliance with departmental policies and procedures
  • Monitors project schedule and budget.
  • Prepares contract change orders for making alterations deviations additions to or deletions from the plans and specifications to ensure proper completion or construction of the contract.
  • Assists Caltrans in the resolution and response to contractor disputes promptly as provided by the contract.
  • Ensure conformance with all Caltrans contract documents.

Required Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in Construction Management of Heavy Civil Engineering projects.
  • 3 years of supervisory experience in the management of management of major construction contracts of similar size and scope.
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer.

Key Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience as a Resident Engineer Construction Manager or Project Manager on a State Highway System project of at least $30 million.
  • Prior experience with construction/operations on a State Highway
  • Valid California Class C drivers license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Caltrans experience.

Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors such as experience education budget internal equity project and location.
