Job Description

Lewis CentralCommunity School District is currently seeking a parttime Alternative Learning Teacher for the 202526 school role is part of our newly established Lewis Central Alternative Center for Education (ACE) Program.

The Lewis Central Alternative Center for Education (ACE) program is designed to support Lewis Central High School students and their families ensuring they stay on track for ontime graduation. Aligned with our districts vision of Inspiring Excellence the program seeks to create opportunities for success and personal growth helping students stay on track for ontime graduation and build the skills and confidence they need to succeed. Our staff is committed to using collaborative and innovative instructional methods to help each student reach their full potential.

Applicants for this position must currently hold or be able to obtain an Iowa teaching license with the appropriate endorsement through the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners no later than August 2025.

Acceptable Endorsements from the Iowa BOEE for this position include:

Any 912 Teaching Endorsement

Job Summary:

Under the general supervision of the building administrators facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district approved curriculum (following the Iowa Teaching Standards for subject listed above) documenting student progress and outcomes addressing specific educational needs of individual students and creating a flexible safe and optimal learning environment. Provide feedback to students parents and administration regarding student progress expectations and goals. This position will also collaborate with building staff including other teachers support staff administration and district support staff to carry out our mission ofinspiring excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Education
  • License issued by Iowa BoEE with acceptable endorsement(s) for subject matter listed above

Essential Functions and Knowledge Required

  • Develops and administers curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Creates a welcoming and engaging learning environment for all students.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and translates lesson plans into learning experiences.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and modifies instructional methods to fit individual students needs including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by actively taking part in professional learning communities and other opportunities.
  • Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete recordkeeping grading and reporting for all student activities achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Encourages parental involvement in students education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensures that student conduct conforms with the schools standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinates with other building professional staff members to evaluate and assess curriculum and participates in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate books instructional aids and other supplies and equipment and maintains inventory records.
  • Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day including activities involving school transportation and lunch.
  • Administers standardized tests in accordance with district testing programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Reliable work attendance is required.

Travel Requirements

  • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical and Mental Demands Work Hazards

  • Works in indoor and outdoor environments.
