Job Description

The Galvin MiddleSchoolis seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as the .6 MLL Teacherfor the upcoming school year beginning in August 2025. JOB SUMMARY

Manage and coordinate the identification program development direct instruction and monitoring of Multilingual Learners and Former Multilingual Learners in Canton Public Schools. Support in the literacy intervention of all learners in congruence with the needs of the Multilingual caseload.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Identify and screen students whose home language is other than English using appropriate tools and those prescribed by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education;
  2. Collaborate with administration and general education staff regarding the needs of individual students providing recommendations to optimize their learning in the general education classroom;
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the secondlanguage learning process and implement instruction accordingly;
  4. Work cooperatively with counselors parents and general educators to develop individualized plans for the delivery of instruction for MLs;
  5. Consult with general education teachers relative to SEI in the classroom and provide consultation and support as needed;
  6. Monitor and document progress in the development of language skills for ML students;
  7. Monitor and document the academic progress for FEL students;
  8. Develop intervention for students with limited or interrupted formal education(SLIFE) school readiness skills sociolinguistic proficiencies content knowledge and academic ways of thinking demonstrated by students who have not consistently attended schools;
  9. Administer the WIDA Screener WIDA Model or PreLASR/W and assist as appropriate in the administration of the ACCESS
  10. Plan prepare and deliver instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences that meet the needs of ML learners
  11. Develop lesson plans that align with the state standards and districtdetermined high quality instructional curricula and are culturally and linguistically responsive
  12. Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities
  13. Continuously engage in reflective practice regarding curricula instruction and culturally responsive practices
  14. Create culturally and linguistically responsive classroom environment
  15. Build strong relationships with students to create a culture of belonging
  16. Prepare the classroom for class activities
  17. Incorporate a variety of culturally and linguistically responsive learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  18. Identify select and implement differentiated instructional resources and methods to meet students varying needs based on data
  19. Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment aligned to the District approved curriculum and/or Massachusetts State Standards
  20. Use relevant technology to support instruction
  21. Follows and implements individual student safety plans IEPs 504s health care plans behavior support plans etc.
  22. Observe and evaluate students performance and development using data; use data to drive decisions and adapt instruction assessments and assignments as appropriate
  23. Provide appropriate feedback on assessments and/or student work
  24. Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students using data
  25. Maintain accurate and complete records of students progress development and attendance as appropriate
  26. Support the social and emotional wellbeing of students during the school day
  27. Manage student behavior in the classroom and school by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the student handbook
  28. Participate in department and school meetings parent/guardian meetings
  29. Communicate necessary information regularly to students colleagues and parents/guardians regarding student progress and student needs
  30. Keep up to date with developments in subject area teaching resources and methods and make relevant changes to instructional plans and activities
  31. Collaborate with student services staff; special educators and other related service providers
  32. Performs other duties specifically articulated within the collective bargaining agreement as assigned by building principal and/or District administration

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Hold or be eligible for Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Licensure as a Teacher of English Language Learners or English as a Second Language Teacher;
  2. A Bachelors degree or higher in English as a Second Language Education or related field Masters degree preferred;
  3. Experience working with children from diverse cultures who are learning English for the first time in a mainstream Sheltered English Immersion program; and
  4. Demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities below as evidenced by course work educational experience schoollevel involvement and/or system wide professional activities and the interview process.
  5. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  6. Wellorganized with excellent leadership abilities
  7. Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
  8. Working knowledge of relevant technologies: internet and email systems; word processing presentation and spreadsheet software; and educational software
  9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the school department may find appropriate and acceptable

COMPENSATION:Per the Union A Collective Bargaining Agreement
