A Brief OverviewThe Health Information (HIM) Documentation Advisor has primary daytoday responsibility of monitoring incomplete and delinquent medical record documentation and collaborating timely record completion with providers their associated facility or clinic manager and other administrative leadership across the Avera System. This role ensures timely monitoring and notification for record completion required for continuity of patient care downstream revenue cycle workflow maintain overall integrity of the medical record and lower risk to the organization. The Advisor will be responsible for monitoring incomplete records from all types of facilities: Ambulatory Acute Long Term Care etc. The position requires strong communication independent initiative organizational skills knowledge of electronic tracking tools and an ability to interact with a variety of internal and external customers.
What you will do
- Understand medical record completion regulatory requirements and various similarity and differentiation of multiple facilities bylaws medical staff rules/regulations and culture and implement best practices for record completion notification to obtain positive results.
- Maintain strong working relationships with providers to help resolve deficiencies understand issues and build a routine record completion expectation.
- With assistance from HIM Leadership identify different type of incomplete records according to regulatory requirements and determine specific notifications and frequency: History and Physical Exams Operative Reports Discharge Summaries Interpretation of diagnostic testing signatures and overall total completion of the medical record.
- Escalate and report continued provider delinquency to HIM Leadership for advisement.
- Utilize electronic systems to report incomplete records in a clear format and manner across multiple facilities.
- Serve as primary point of contact and liaison to providers and Avera facilities in respect to record completion.
- Explore challenges to providers record completion open and/or complete IT work tickets for resolution to specific providers eSign and Workload queue issues.
- Complete data collection analysis and reporting as required for escalation of highvolume incomplete volumes by providers providers no longer available etc.
- Adhere to all legal and ethical standards surrounding health information including but not limited to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other applicable state and federal laws.

Required Education License/Certification or Work Experience:
- 13 years Health information management experience in a healthcare setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education License/Certification or Work Experience:
- Associates Health Information Technology or Administration or a related healthcare field.
