LEAD ACADEMIC ADVISOR
Student Services Professional III
Academic Affairs

Salary Range: $5540 $7893/Monthly

Work Schedule: FullTime Monday Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; exempt classification.

Essential Functions: Under the supervision of the Director of the Prison Graduation Initiative (PGI) the incumbent serves as the Lead Advisor for a team providing academic advisement to incarcerated students (including transitional students seeking to enter the BA/BS programs) and current students in the BA/BS programs. In addition to advising students the Lead Advisor supports the Director in coordinating targeted advising campaigns and progress report campaigns utilizing the Education Advisory Board (EAB) Navigate platform. The Lead Advisor collaborates with the PGI Director and campus Administrators including the Major Departments Provost and Admissions to ensure University compliance with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and California State University Los Angeles regulations and policies. The Lead Advisor works with collegebased advising centers; assists the Director in tracking and monitoring students through the process of enrollment and application period; collaborates with CDCR to create cohorts for all PGI Prison Education Programs; assists PGI applicants with admissions and FAFSA applications; and manages gathers and analyzes advising data and presents results as requested.

Required Qualifications & Experience: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited fouryear college or university. Three years of progressively responsible professional experience in student advising services. A masters degree may be substituted for one year of experience. Must be computer literate and be proficient in standard word processing and database software including Microsoft Word Excel Outlook and PowerPoint and understand standard office procedures. Must possess excellent organizational skills excellent written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills. The incumbent must be able to: plan organize and prioritize work; develop and maintain database systems; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; exercise tact courtesy alertness and good judgment when responding to others; multitask complete assignments in a timely fashion and work under pressure. Must demonstrate initiative and the ability to solve problems independently including the ability to communicate by phone by email and in group settings. Must have the ability to follow all University policies procedures and guidelines including but not limited to safety civility information security and nondiscrimination policies and procedures. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who may apply for the position.

California State University Los Angeles as part of the CSU system is a State of California Employer. As such the University requires all employees upon date of hire to reside in the State of California. As of January 1 2022 the CSU OutofState Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSUrelated work outside the state of California.

Desired Qualifications: Knowledge of general principles practices and trends in academic advising. Experience with EAB Navigate advising platform including both appointment and progress report campaigns. Experience working with incarcerated students or comparable student populations.
