Job Description:
Student Accessibility Intake & Provision of Services
Conducts intake activities for Aims students with disabilities seeking academic accommodations including Concurrent Enrollment students Continuing Education students and Center for Adult Learning students across all campuses.
Collects and interprets cognitive educational medical psychological and psychiatric evaluations for identified students.
Collects and reviews documentation of disabilities and decides upon appropriate accommodation requests undergoing and individualized casebycase assessment.
Facilitates the collective processes of determining collaborating with students arranging and notifying faculty of a students accommodations for each course for each term.
Provides as needed academic advising to students with disabilities.
Conducts ongoing evaluations of students progress to ensure appropriate services.
Recommends and arranges for adaptive equipment as needed in a classroom or lab setting.
Maintains confidential record and meeting note system for each student case.
Creates and sends accommodation notification letters to faculty and students.
Provides case management services which includes maintaining case notes making appropriate referrals for learning evaluations counseling services or additional academic success resources.
Advises students regarding general learning issues and strategies for success working to find appropriate strategies/software for everyone.
Provides appropriate and accurate referrals for students so they are aware of collegewide and community resources.
Facilitates the implementation of access services for students with disabilities including training and scheduling work studies for notetakers/scribes and/or test proctoring as well as proctoring tests when needed.
Works with interpreting or captioning agencies as needed.
Leadership & Supervision:
Supervise support staff overseeing and directing daily operations providing guidance and performance management and ensuring efficient team productivity.
Offers leadership guidance and support in case management practices and professional development.
Assists in the training and onboarding of new staff ensuring adherence to best practices and institutional policies.
Collaborates with the EDSWAB to develop and implement strategies for program improvement and effectiveness.
Reconciles processes and audits all invoices for accommodations across the institution for students.
Prepares paperwork for accountability and compliance for both external regulations and internal processes.
Maintains accessibility database system which houses student files and produces accommodation letters.
Continuously monitors effectiveness quality and provision of timely accommodations services and auxiliary aids to ensure equal access for students with disabilities and compliance.
Researches adaptive equipment and accommodations to provide the most cost effective appropriate accommodations for the institution.
Maintains inventory control for Student Accessibility Services including but not limited to adaptive equipment and coordinate storage for equipment so it is not intermingled with institutional equipment.
Works with Institutional Effectiveness to prepare reports and statistical information regarding the impact Student Accessibility Services have on student success and in particular retention and persistence.
Analyzes student and faculty evaluations collected each term and implement changes as necessary and appropriate.
Maintains working relationships with contracted service agencies to provide optimal services for students.
Assesses and trains students staff and faculty in the use of assistive technology conducts workshops mini courses and oneonone sessions for current Aims students on how to use adaptive equipment and software.
Assists instructors administrators and counselors in implementing programs and activities to increase disability access.
Learns understands and communicates curricula for assistive technology.
Evaluates programs such as alternative text formats and assistive technology software.
Tracks the impact Disability Access Service has on student success rates.
Student Accessibility Services Departmental Leadership:
This position is responsible for overseeing and directing all student accessibility related services programs and staff. This role is the leader within the Student Accessibility Services department and serves as the direct contact for escalated complex situations.
Supports the EDSAWB in strategic planning program evaluation and reporting.
Collaborates with the EDSAWB to develop and implement strategies for program improvement and effectiveness
Maintains knowledge of community and campus resources by ongoing engagement with Aims faculty and staff public health private services and community stakeholders.
Evaluates and enhances the quality of Student Accessibility Services through consistent assessment detailed documentation comprehensive reporting and the proactive revision of policies and procedures.
Directs oversees and supports Student Accessibility Services staff in achieving and maintaining relevant professional development certifications and engaging in continuous training.
Designs develops and implements educational programs to advance case management practices and knowledge both at the department level and collegewide level.
Leads weekly Student Accessibility Services meetings ensuring continuity and effective team collaboration.
Assists with research and stays current with best practices in the field of disability services in higher education.
Monitors developments and maintains compliance with federal state and institutional regulations regarding privacy ADAAA copyright laws and Section 508 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
Researches pending legislation laws policies procedures and best practices to improve student retention and completion throughout all services in department.
Offers training on disability services equipment and software use disability awareness and web accessibility.
Maintains operational procedure manuals.
Provides budget development recommendations to Executive Director.
Adheres to internal compliance standards and ensure support staff is also in compliance with case management practices.
Accessibility Programming:
Conducts presentations and training on disability and access and acts as liaison between the Student Accessibility Services Office and faculty/staff across all campuses.
Provides oneonone training to faculty and students in regard to accessibility.
Assists faculty in identifying a students learning problem(s) sand support teaching methods and using equipment to better serve students with disabilities.
Directs disability awareness training/events across all campuses to educate faculty staff and students on various diagnoses.
Directs and manages the process for providing support services to students with disabilities across the institution.
Through partnerships with the Center for Professional Development (CPD) and the Faculty Teaching and Learning Center (FTLC) develops workshops to educates faculty on ADAAA and Section 504 from the Rehabilitation Act.
Other Duties as Assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in in Special Education Rehabilitation Counseling medical or legal field or another related field plus
Four (4) years of working with people with disabilities or in the medical field or related coursework/training or an equivalent combination of education and/or work experience. Of the required four (4) years of experience one (1) year must be supervisory and/or demonstrated leadership experience.
Highlevel knowledge of various laws and requirements to maintain compliance with the department and campus wide. (ADA/504 requirements WCAG).
Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated high interpersonal personal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and equitably with diverse populations.
Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with supervisors and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in higher education disability support including interpreting disability documentation and/or psychological evaluations.
Experience in case management or coordinating services within a higher education setting.
Familiarity with student information systems (e.g. Workday) and case management databases (e.g. Maxient).
Experience making professional presentations to groups of up to 50 people.
Experience working with a diverse student population including posttraditional students students of color Veterans firstgeneration college students and others from underserved or underrepresented backgrounds.
Working knowledge of mental health student development BIT best practices higher education law FERPA and electronic recordkeeping systems.
Bilingual with proficiency in reading writing and speaking Spanish or American Sign Language.
