The mission of the Division of Fire Prevention and Control Professional Qualifications and Training (DFPC PQT) Section is to promote excellence in public safety by delivering quality training and developing and upholding professional standards for Colorados emergency responders. The Divisions purpose in the broadest sense is to maintain a highlyskilled professional and ethical public safety workforce that provides excellent service to the citizens of Colorado.
The purpose of the DFPC PQT Fire Training and Certification Program is to implement standards for the training and certification of Colorados 20000 Fire Service Professionals. For over 30 years Colorados fire programs have assisted in preparing career and volunteer firefighters and other emergency responders who serve and protect Coloradoans every day. In 1979 the Colorado Legislature established the Fire Training and Certification Program.
ABOUT THE JOB
The position is for the sole purpose of providing training programs to local emergency response agencies through the delivery and use of our training equipment. The purpose of this position is to develop deliver and present a wide range of fire service related training programs in all aspects of public safety emergency response; to identify issues and programs relating to the fire service in Colorado; provide assistance to fire department training programs develop curricula and assist with coordination of special training programs; and coordinate and interact as a liaison for National Fire Academy outreach programs. Ensure professional performance and compliance of Colorados public safety personnel and agencies with respect to DFPC Policies and Procedures and Administrative Rules.
Program Management
Through research technical expertise initiative this position assesses training needs designs or modifies course content plans program training activities conducts coordinates facilitates and assists fire departments with regional training and certification processes. It recommends and develops training curricula and assists in establishing training priorities recruits and develops instructors or presenters and evaluates program results and effectiveness for Colorados fire departments who voluntarily comply with training and accreditation.
This position routinely works in all types of weather conditions and in highly elevated temperatures while conducting livefire training. This position works off of ladders from high levels and on roofs. The position must be familiar with propane powered equipment and highpressure cylinders and calibration and maintenance of said equipment. The position will routinely wear firefighter structural protective clothing and a SelfContained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) (Total approximately 70 pounds of equipment).
Develops delivers and evaluates regional training programs and instructors.
Assesses training needs of fire departments fire training associations and other public service organizations.
Through regular contact: plans assesses and identifies training needs.
Assesses availability of resources and determines effectiveness of assigned training programs and projects.
Maintenance & Delivery
Drives semitractor trailer and/or large pickup tow vehicle to transport fire training equipment throughout Colorado.
Provides routine maintenance to the training equipment and works with the vendor or vendor approved repair to ensure the equipment is in a continual state of operational readiness.
This position schedules both delivery of the equipment and maintains the equipment ensuring that the availability of the equipment is maximized.
Needs Assessment
Ensures validity of training programs by: continuously analyzing and evaluating national state and local fire service practices; considering legal issues and court decisions; ascertaining citizen expectations; assessing social and economic changes; and interpreting emerging trends affecting fire service.
Other duties as assigned to attain the Division and Sections mission.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements
Education and Experience:
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in Firefighting Firefighter Training and/or Public Safety Training equal to eight (8) years.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Current valid drivers license at time of hire and must obtain a Coloradoissued drivers license within 30days of hire.
This position will operate a pool car to travel to meetings around the state.
