Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford Michigan three times per week at minimum.

The Role

GM Defense is looking for a highly motivated individual to take on the role of a Team Lead Technical Publications for military and dealership publications. The technical publication team lead will be responsible for leading a team of writers & illustrators in the creation of Military Standard (MILSTD) and / or contractor format operators & maintainers manuals. This lead will also be responsible for interfacing and collaborating with thirdparty publication partners and GM Defense engineering to ensure accurate and timely delivery of MILSTD manuals to the GM Defense customer.

What Youll Do

  • Manage a team of technical writers and illustrators who create repair and diagnostic service manuals for military technicians as well as GM dealership technicians.
  • Create and manage reports to track manual completeness as well as to ensure accuracy
  • Create validation plans for on vehicle validations to ensure the highest level of quality
  • Conduct an analysis of designs and maintenancerelated data necessary to author and coordinate illustrations and parts data for technical manuals briefings proposals instruction books catalogs and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures installation operation and maintenance of equipment and systems.
  • Study engineering sketches drawings parts lists specifications mockups and product samples
  • Consult with subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather the necessary information to generate Operator Manuals Maintenance Manuals and Repair Parts and Special Tool Lists (RPSTLs) for ground vehicles systems and equipment
  • Responsible for technical accuracy and conducting internal validation
  • Support logistics demonstrations and customer verification activities
  • Generate manhour estimates to complete specific manual deliver requirements

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 5 years of relevant work experience and high school diploma
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings (models blueprints schematics hydraulic and pneumatic flows).
  • Experience writing for Diesel automotive heavywheeled vehicles or relate
  • Knowledge of logistics systems subsystems and components related to the operation and maintenance of heavy and/or medium duty ground vehicles systems and equipment
  • Proven mechanical or electrical aptitude
  • Proven resultsoriented performance with excellent problemsolving abilities decisionmaking and organizational skills as well as the capability to adapt to change
  • Strong initiative and ability to organize daily tasks for your team with minimal supervision
  • Fast learner with the ability to pick up new concepts and technology quickly
  • Strong communication skills (oral and written)
  • Strong editing skills and the ability to provide editing rationale to customers
  • Comfortable working in teams and independently
  • Experience creating training documentation
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word PowerPoint Excel Visio)
  • The applicant must be able to obtain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC)
  • Candidate must either be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen U.S. permanent resident asylee or refugee) or a nonU.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required export control authorization.
  • Eligible to obtainSecretU.S. Security Clearance after hire.

  • Bachelors degree
  • Experience writing to twolevel DoD maintenance concept
  • Experience with Arbortext XML Editor and DoD IADS software
  • Experience with XML tagging and authoring in XML using MILSTD2361 Document Type Definitions (DTDs) and with MILSTD400511B/C MILSTD 400512B/C or MILSTD38784
