Job Description

Location: Part Time Huron City Schools Woodlands Elementary Days/Times: MondayThursday 7:30am11:00am Start Date: August 27 2025 Qualifications Skills Required and Language Expertise Valid Ohio Department of Education license Associate: Interpreter for the Deaf/Hearing Impaired Knowledge of child development and language development especially as it relates to students who are deaf or hard of hearing Proficiency in spoken and written English and one or more of the following visual modes of communication used by students: American Sign Language Contact Sign Language Signed English Manually Coded English Signing Exact English Cued Language Oral Transliteration Preferred experience working with students who are deaf and/or hard of hearing BCI/FBI Clearance Overview: The Educational Interpreter provides interpreting and other support services to D/HH students who are receiving education in an inclusive mainstream or selfcontained setting within the school district. The educational interpreters primary function is to provide access to auditory information facilitate communication among D/HH students their hearing peers the classroom teacher and other personnel in the school environment. Other duties that may be performed when not required to provide interpreting include reinforcing content test reading documenting and participating in meetings with the team members. Facilitate communication in a variety of environments by Applying knowledge and identifying resources to access a wide range of academic and world knowledge necessary to interpret in a variety of school settings; Supporting learning environments that promote high levels of learning and achievement for all students; Preparing and delivering effective interpretation that supports instruction assessment and the learning of each individual student. Serving as liaison between the D/HH students classmates instructors and the administrative staff by: Encouraging students to work directly with the classroom teacher Familiarizing the classroom teacher with the exact role of the interpreter in the classroom and encouraging good relationships among students Promoting the participation of D/HH students in all classroom activities by following: assisting the classmates to understand the role of the interpreter helping peers to understand the social and communication needs of the D/HH students supporting the teacher in developing a level of comfort with the interaction styles and needs of the D/HH students Providing interpreting for extracurricular activities and parent meetings when necessary. Keeping a daily notebook/log/calendar which should include all class topics/assignments for classes new vocabulary questions to ask the teacher etc. Assisting with providing orientation regarding D/HH students with staff. If needed be familiar with the maintenance and utilization of hearing assistive technology for D/HH students. Participate in the Evaluation Team Report (ETR) and individualized education program (IEP) processes and collaborating with educational staff by Being aware of and supporting students abilities needs services and language as documented on the ETR and IEP; Collecting information and charting progress on student use of interpreting services participating as a team member during the conference; Communicating with members of the educational team regarding issues related to interpretation and hearing loss to support student learning. Assume responsibility for professional growth conduct performance and involvement as an individual and as a member of the learning community by Maintaining licensure through activities approved by the Local Professional Development Committee in accordance with an Individual Professional Development Plan; Participate in workshops given by agencies and personnel such as State Support Team universities county/local staff and professional organizations designed to upgrade professional skills and knowledge of special education; Adhering to ethical standards of the profession (e.g. Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of Professional Conduct EIPA Guidelines for Professional Conduct Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators) and of NCOESC and the district; Establishing and maintaining professional rapport with students.
