****Applicants seeking shortterm or parttime work with the University of Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions which include administrative professional and technical (APT) or instructionaltype positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees (i.e. paid holidays/leave). Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for fulltime employees and up to 1 calendar year for parttime employees.

Other Conditions: This position ends on September 30 2025. Continuation subject to availability of funds and satisfactory performance.

Duties:

1. Manage the NASAfunded Hawaiis Aspiring Aerospace Engineers Academy (HAAEA) project activities.
2. Work with project team and manage the collection of student reports for review and their preparations for showcasing
the project results.
3. Periodically report the progress of the project including student performance data to the Principal Investigator (Pl) in a
format consistent with the structure of NASA reports.
4. Engage with at least 5 high schools in addition to the participating schools by the beginning of fall semester in 2025.
5. Form high school student teams and university student teams in the project for key project performance.
6. Initiate and organize informal learning module classes for high school students.
7. Communicate coordinate and work with participating high schools to organize guidance and mentorship to students
to conduct their key projects especially HAAEAs Capstone research projects predetermined for each year.
8. Initiate and manage activities to organize student rocketry and planetary rover clubs at high schools.
9. Provide guidance to students with applying for NASA Internships.
10. Disseminate the student project performance via high school websites and on other media platforms as appropriate.
11. Assist with creating the project website.

Responsibilities:

1. Engage at least 5 high schools in addition to the participating schools by the beginning of fall semester in 2024 and
form high school student teams and university student teams in the project for key project performance.
2. Initiate organize and manage the key projects including HAAEAs Capstone research projects at participating high
schools.
3. Periodically report the progress to the PL
4. Organize and manage the Kupuna Day event (showcasing awards ceremony cultural program and dinner) each
year during the AprilMay timeframe.
5. Lead the project meetings.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Knowledge and experience in STEMrelated projects good communication skills.
2. Experience with working in a high school environment providing mentorship and guidance to high school students.
3. Knowledge about NASA space missions and opportunities for students.
4. Knowledge and experience in working with Adobe MS Office programs and other software.
5. Interest in contributing to the project performance.

Desirable Qualifications:

1. Experience with informal teaching at high schools.
2. Knowledge about NASAs Moon and Mars missions.
3. Experience with and knowledge of space mission maneuvers.
4. Ability to work with high school administrations and teachers.
5. Ability to set up coordinate and manage projects and project activities.
6. Experience with organizing and running conferences.
7. Experience with data collection analysis and reporting.
