Outdoor Learning Coordinator

General Summary of Position:

Outdoor Learning Teacher:

We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Greenhouse and Garden Teacher to join our educational team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in gardening and environmental sciences along with a commitment to fostering a love for Gods gifts in students. As a Greenhouse and Garden Teacher you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging lessons creating handson learning experiences and promoting environmental awareness through practical gardening and horticultural activities.

Greenhouse and Garden Coordinator:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Greenhouse and Garden Coordinator to help facilitate our Outdoor Learning Program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in horticulture IPM greenhouse care and garden management.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities of the Position:

Outdoor Learning Teacher:

• Provide high quality engaging outdoor and horticultural instruction that is developmentally appropriate for PreKindergarten through 8thgrade students.
• Demonstrate the ability to model deliver and craft rich studentcentered learning experiences around Science Technology Engineering Arts and Math.
• Integrate literacy into instruction through text and writing opportunities.
• Coordinate with the Curriculum Champion to develop lessons that meet Diocesan requirements.
• Collaborate with teachers to develop lessons that reinforce learning from the classroom.
• Work collaboratively with other teachers and support staff in addressing the needs of students.
• Regularly conduct planning for lessons on gardening and horticulture using commonly accepted professional practice (content goals assessment reteaching etc.).
• Maintain and provide reasonable and meaningful student grading and evaluation and communicate such information to students and parents.
• Actively participate in faculty and grade level or department meetings assist building efforts to plan budget implement and evaluate the outdoor learning program and to do related work as required. In carrying out these responsibilities the teacher will follow school policy and procedures standard practices and approved curriculum and will actively and positively support the school vision.
• Plan for student success based on assessed needs of individual students and the use of data to determine each students current knowledge and skill level and to measure progress.
• Maintain awareness of students comfort and allergies within the greenhouse.
• Performs miscellaneous jobrelated duties as assigned.

Greenhouse and Garden Coordinator:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Greenhouse and Garden Coordinator to help facilitate our Outdoor Learning Program. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in horticulture IPM greenhouse care and garden management. In this role you will be responsible for the following:

• Maintain the infrastructure in the garden to ensure that water is operable and soil is conditioned.
• Utilize IPM in the garden and greenhouse that is safe and effective for a school environment.
• Develop and align a system and schedule to ensure that vegetables herbs and ornamentals are planted rotated maintained and harvested in conjunction with lesson plans.
• Recruit and organize garden volunteers within the MIS/MIC community.
• Maintain the health of all plants in the greenhouse and garden.
• Regularly check the evaporative cooling system and replace filters when needed. Report issues to maintenance team.
• Regularly check the heating system to ensure it is in working order. Report issues to the maintenance team.
• Winterize greenhouse irrigation system and evaporative cooler before a freeze.
• Coordinate addition and removal of shade cloth seasonally.
• Care for or schedule care for plants in garden and greenhouse during school breaks.
• Maintain organization of tools supplies and plants within the greenhouse.
• With approval order supplies as needed for lessons and greenhouse/garden needs.
• Occasionally inspect greenhouse visually for structural integrity. Report any findings to maintenance.
• Demonstrate empathy rapport objectivity and listening skills.
• Any additional needs to maintain the health of the plants and equipment for the program.
• Performs miscellaneous jobrelated duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors degree in subject taught or related field from an accredited American university required

• Must meet the minimum requirements for teaching field as set forth by the Diocese and TCCB ED.

• Must meet staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese and school administration.

Special Requirements:

• Catholic in good standing or with thorough knowledge and understanding of Catholic teachings.
• Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks.
• Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures.
• Weekend and evening hours may be required.
