Job Summary: The Department of Natural Sciences invites applications for a fulltime 9month tenuretrack position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in Biology with a focus on the brain and behavior. This position presents an exciting opportunity for a scholar whose research and teaching interests lie at the intersection of neuroscience memory learning and behavior contributing to a growing emphasis on understanding the biological underpinnings of cognition and behavior. The field of Brain and Behavior explores the complex relationship between neural processes and observable behaviors integrating insights from molecular biology neurophysiology cognitive science and behavioral ecology.
The successful candidate will specialize in the study of how the brain influences behavior and will play a vital role teaching upper division undergraduate lecture/laboratory courses in Behavioral Biology and Neurobiology (ex. Behavioral neuroscience neurobiology etc.) and also contributing to foundational courses and other courses as needed by the College of Science Engineering & Mathematics. These courses serve sevendegree programs including our B.S. in Biology B.S. in Chemistry and B.S. in Integrated Environmental Science. The successful candidate must be capable of and committed to effective teaching program level assessment of student learning and working with diverse populations.

Duties/Responsibilities: The primary role of the successful candidate will be to provide exceptional teaching using modern pedagogical methods experiential learning and innovative techniques. The person will contribute to the departments teaching mission through behavioral biology behavioral neuroscience neurobiology neuroscience as well as fundamental aspects of biology. The candidate is expected to develop an externally funded research program that engages and trains undergraduate students in modern field and laboratorybased approaches in their area of expertise. Finally the person will contribute to the University through serviceoriented duties including serving on committees.
Required Skills/Abilities: In addition to the requirements discussed above in order to be a leading applicant in this search the applicant must be fluent in the English language be able to communicate effectively to a diverse student population be experienced in programlevel assessment of student learning and the effective use of innovative curricular approaches that are studentcentered inquirybased and handson oriented and be familiar with learning management systems (ex. Canvas Moodie etc.). The candidate must also be able to demonstrate outstanding potential for excellence in teaching through a successful interview and /or classroom demonstration.
Education and Experience: A minimum of a masters degree in a relevant Biological Science is required but a Ph.D. is desirable.
Physical Requirements: The candidate must be able to handle minor tasks associated with their position and be versed in maintaining safety regulations in laboratory environments.
