Annual Salary: $41690

Work Schedule: Monday Friday 8:00am 4:30pm

Are you excited about this Community Support Specialist job

As a FullTime Community Support Specialist at the HamptonNewport News Community Services Board you will be essential in supporting individuals with serious mental or emotional impairments. Your responsibilities will encompass a variety of functions aimed at enhancing psychosocial development and community reintegration. You will deliver independent living skills training and provide prevocational and vocational coaching while conducting thorough needs assessments and case management.

Utilizing your knowledge of crisis intervention and supportive therapy you will facilitate both individual and group psychosocial training including recreational activities that promote wellbeing. Your advocacy for clients rights and services will ensure they receive the support they need. Additionally youll monitor and document clients progress ensuring that our services continue to meet their unique needs.

What you need to be successful

To excel as a FullTime Community Support Specialist at the HamptonNewport News Community Services Board candidates need a bachelors degree in human services such as Social Work Psychology or Counseling complemented by behavioral healthrelated internship experience. Registration with the Board of Counseling as a QMHPTrainee within the first 90 days of employment is essential. A solid understanding of assessment techniques and crisis intervention strategies is crucial as is familiarity with psychosocial development principles.

Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is preferred enhancing communication with diverse clients. Additionally candidates must possess a valid Virginia Drivers License as transporting clients may be required. Strong interpersonal skills empathy and the ability to advocate for clients needs are vital for fostering a supportive environment that promotes recovery and rehabilitation.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Bachelors degree in human services such as Social Work Psychology or Counseling with behavioral healthrelated internship experience.
  • Must register with the Board of Counseling to practice as a QMHPTrainee within the initial 90 days of employment.
